A Xhaka-Ceballos double-pivot will be very creative and very progressive.

we should play with those 2 ahead of torreira in a midfield 3. because those 2 alone arent going to be enough on the defensive side of the ball. use the barca triangle with a deep CM and 2 more attack minded CMs. then 2 proper wingers and a striker and we might be onto something.

Torreira is not suited to a deep-lying midfield role. If we're playing a 3, Xhaka should be in the middle, flanked by a couple of runners like Lucas and Dani.

If we play a double-pivot with Xhaka and Ceballos, then we should have an AM/CF that is more of a presser than a passer with Auba ahead of him. Someone like Willock, or even Laca. I think if we play the inverted triangle, Laca will have to play up top or there'll be nobody to hold it up, and Auba will end up out wide.

torreira isnt big and strong like a typical deep lying CM, but hes a better defender than xhaka and far more mobile. xhaka's complete lack of mobility is the reason i dont want him being the deepest of our midfielders.

But that's where you need mobility the least. Torreira is wasted fixed to the middle of the pitch. You can't just run off to the byline when you play deepest, you need to maintain the structure of the team. You're the reference for the CBs as well as your midfield partners, I'm not sure a Torreira type makes sense there at all.

Torreira/AMN—Xhaka/Guendouzi—Ceballos/Willock

Maybe an inverted midfield trio with Torreira and Xhaka behind Ceballos.

if we play with 3 CBs, i think maybe xhaka is okay there, but with 2, his lack of pace and lack of defensive ability means we're going to concede a ton of goals like we did last season.

i dont think torreira is wasted playing as a sweeping deep lying CM. he'd actually offer protection to the defense when our fullbacks are way up to the pitch.

if he were better going forward and a real goal threat, id agree that maybe hes wasted there, but he doesnt offer a ton in the final 3rd, and i think his vision and mobility would offer more in a deeper role.

the big problem is trying to find a spot for xhaka since its clear hes not going anywhere. his negatives far outweigh his positives, imo

Talk that we are going for a permanent deal but where Emery says “line” I think he means “loan”

Emery also saying he sees Ceballos as an 8 or 10 and that's where he'll use him.

I wonder what this means for Özil?

he can captain the reserves this season

Don't say that or you'll get Arsenal fans getting heart attacks or suffering nervous breakdowns.

Ozil's gonna play Europa League next season.

If he'll press, he'll be excellent.

Those who know him, how good is he at pressing as we all know both Ozil and Xhaka are absolutely shite at it so he will have to do it.

he doesn't seem like the type to fire up if his position is under threat, so we probably won't see much change in what he offers. he may get pushed over to europa/cup duties, if we ever get to a full complement of our attacking options

I hope he doesn't pull a Kawhi Leonard on us.

What's wrong with winning it all and moving on? I think Leonard will be remembered very fondly in Toronto.
