OK I'll bite = Why? - not that I believe he is capable of winning the league in the first place.

Read the post above Clrnc's

So he's being bloody minded in response to a comment about winning the PL and still being given the arse?

Let’s be honest, every game Emery sticks around for is entirely results based, there is no other reason for keeping him around, there’s nothing to latch on to.

If Emery somehow managed to win our first league title in 16 years then we should get rid of him? How does that even make any sense? For that to happen we would need to improve so much that it would mean Emery is a miracle worker. I want him gone too but this talk is just ridiculous.

Think you guys are taking the comment a little too literally. The point being made by Coombs, who has been as patient with Emery as anyone, is that he's clearly not the right man regardless of results. The issues go deeper (and ultimately mean Emery has no chance of ever winning the league with us).

he's not the right man because of the results. if we were getting results i would love him. i only care about wins, all that style shit went out the door with post 2012 wenger. but i can't see us winning the title with him because his teams would be incapable of grinding out results over a long season.

Results only is the metric I used to judge him in his first season. This season I do care about style.

This football is sad.

There was a feel good factor and verve about the beginning of last season. The players were excited and played hard and fast, even if the underlying metrics showed a bit of a mess.

Was new manager, new coach, new club bounce. Emery couldn't sustain it. I honestly believe this has little to do with systems, selections, or the technical aspects of coaching. Emery may be a great coach, but he's not a great manager, and you still need that skillset to do well in this sport, no matter what they change the title to.

min to continue after this season is the title because the style of football we're playing is only tolerable with results. you can't play this mind-numbing style and finish 3rd and 4th every year. there are 2 things that i value in football: results first and beautiful football second. i was all on board during wenger's barren years and i defended him because the football was awesome and we were finishing in the champions league places. once the beautiful football stopped then what's the point? to watch your team get embarrassed?

There is no right man for the job. The circumstances surrounding our club are basically shit. We have a shit budget and our rivals spend more money than us. We were unable to cash in on any of our departing talents and propel beyond our shit budget like Liverpool managed to do after selling Suarez and Coutinho.

Go review posts on redcafe from 2013. If only we had a better manager than Moyes!?! If only we had a manager better than LVG?!! If only we had a manager better than Mourinho ?!?!? If only we had a manager better than Ole?!?! I think our fans seem hell bent on wanting to get on that managerial bandwagon. Can't wait to see who our next manager will be and how long it will take before the fans do their usual bullshit.

Better yet, go have look at the local consensus on Liverpool managers from Souness to Klopp. That would be even more fun. Until Liverpool spent an incredible amount of money to sign all of van Dijk, Fabinho, Keita and Allison in under 6 months, they had very little shot at competing for the title in near 20 years.

Money talks, bullshit walks. Can we start protesting against the board and owners already? Emery is a scapegoat, just like Wenger was. Managers make a useful scapegoat whilst the people above carry on unfettered. Emery is purely distraction from the reality of the situation which is we spent a grand fucking total of 38 or so million this summer. IN 2019!!!!!!!!!! Fucking hell.

Yep, if United want to get anywhere they need to start spending some money.

People here are not thick, nobody is expecting us to reach City’s level or even to win the league. Not being outclassed by Sheffield United and very nearly against Villa would be a good start.

There is always a right man for the job. It's not Emery for this one though.

Recruiting the right players is obviously the second part of the puzzle. I just think it's placing the blame at the wrong feet. If people spent as much time chasing out the owners as they do chasing out the manager, maybe we'd get somewhere.

In general I'd agree but the owners haven't done anything wrong this summer.

Except, that is exactly what people are asking for in a roundabout way. If you're not Man City or Liverpool, you're liable to lose to the likes Sheffield United and nearly lose against Villa. Because if you weren't getting beaten or outclassed by teams below you, you'd be most likely competing or winning the league. You see how that works?

@[deleted] The part where we had 60m to spend on a CB, then we didn't get a good one so we got stop gap Luiz and still sold Iwobi was pretty bad.

You think a 40 million budget was enough to improve our prospects this season after finishing 5th? I'm curious, how many teams outspent us this summer?

Looking at things objectively we should be doing far better with the players we have . Where we are falling down constantly is how we are set up and how we play . That's the manager's failing. He isn't the breath of fresh air we were looking for  , we've opened the wrong window and all we are getting is the scent of the alley.

Not sure why this is suddenly trending on twitter but quite an interesting story of why Emery failed so spectacularly bad at Spartak. (Not relevant nor a dig at his Arsenal reign)

We spent more than 40m and on evidence would you really trust this manager with more money?

I'm no fan of Kroenke but the short term issue is definitely with the club to sort some basics first.
