• The Arsenal
  • Minimum target for Emery next season to justify extension?

So turns out the break clause/option story is bogus, at least according to Orny. It’s a straight up 3 year deal.

I’d really like a change by the end of the season but I reckon if Emery gets top four he’ll be allowed to start year 3 regardless of how we get there. That’s when the pressure really ramps up.

Our situation remains roughly the same as last season. City and Liverpool are notably better than us, no other club is.

We're a top four side in this league under competent management. Came close last season and we have to deliver this season. It isn't looking like Emery's the man to take us beyond that point.

he never was that guy burnsy. orstein claims he's not just viewed as a 'stability' appointment inside the club, but that's always how i saw it. he doesn't have the chops to lead arsenal to any perceived promised land

We've been a stability club for over a decade. This is a massive ask. That a man improves on his previous season, qualifies for Europe and still gets the sack. Can one of you frame the conversation please

You guys are being too greedy.
Emery getting top 4 in two years is good enough for the board and good enough for me.
I hate the shitshow that Emeryball is but it's a results game and we can spit him out if we flop at the higher level (Champions League).
In a couple of years, the youngsters would be taking over from xhaka! and co so any decent manager should flourish.

That does make sense. Going from a reign as long as Wenger's to only giving out a two year contract does seem a bit too much a lurch in the opposite direction.

I just want us to play good football again. Results almost always come if you do, and if they don't I can honestly live with that. I can't take this bullshit much longer though.

I don't think there is anything he can do from here that would lead to me wanting to him to stay. If we make top 4 this season it'll be more down to the fact that Spurs have downed tools, Chelsea couldn't sign anyone, United are being managed by Moyes mk II and the likes of Leicester etc. don't have the experience for a top 4 push. The football we have seen and have been playing is not good enough - and I don't see it changing anytime soon.

In an ideal world he gets us top 4 and gets sent on his way to be replaced by a more progressive manager. I like this squad, there is potential here with the likes of Leno, Bellerin, Tierney, Guendouzi, Pepe, Laca and Auba to really challenge if we get the parts around them firing and operating in a functional coherent system.

Two main things I want out of Emery:

  • Top 4, I don't really care if we win UEL or no.
  • For the team to actually be able to do the things he wants them to do. So far he wants us to play out the back and we can't. He wants us to do a high press and we only do so off and on. He wants us to play a strong attacking game and so far we've been more reliant on individual brilliance to carry this out.

Does he really want us to do those stuffs though? Talk is cheap but most of the time he is too conservative and changed formation to defend against opponent strength. Hardly any protagonist shit he claims

it looks like he does from how he starts.

Our club is too big for this guy. He'll be gone by the end of the year and be filed in the same folder of nothingness as Bruce Rioch.

He'd have to win the league, and even then, I'd probably still want him to move on.

Ok I will bite. If he wins the league he can stay for the next 3 years.

Sorry mate but Rioch gets a pass as DB10 was signed on his watch.

OK I'll bite = Why? - not that I believe he is capable of winning the league in the first place.

Agreed.

Will be interesting to see how long it takes before we start to see swathes of empty seats at Home games.
