Let's be real and stop the bitter talk. Chambo was fantastic tonight. Scored an absolute belter and put in a hell of a shift defensively. He always had it in him, just needed a proper manager to get their hands on him and bring it out of him consistently and he's got that now. Expect him to kick on massively as he's still only 24.
The one we ain't playing 2017/18
Chambo was probably one of our better players last year, but he didn't want to be here and we got great value for a squad player with 12 months left on his contract. He had already started to kick on at Arsenal so it's not exactly surprising that he's doing well for Liverpool now. It would've been nice to keep a homegrown guy like him but it's not like he's hard to replace.
Yeah Chambo was good today which was annoying to see.
Wonder what Klopp would have done with our team if we'd gotten him. We had a stronger base than Liverpool when he came in and more funds. We really missed the boat with so many managers because we stuck with Wengs. This summer we need to be proactive and get things done.
Two takeaways
- Liverpool are yet another club we are definitively behind now. The purpose with which they attack, and their ability to pulverize City twice this year is incredible, and we feel tired in comparison.
- Anfield on a Champions League night. The atmosphere from the moment they fire up YNWA is incredible. You can see how Klopp would’ve been drawn there from the Westfalenstadion.
It's not just Klopp, but also FSG, the owners. Their willingness to allow the club to stump up for Keita, for instance, and not wait for the release clause to kick in is something we couldn't even dream of under Kroenke.

Too much is made of this to be honest. If they were the ones losing, or if they were playing some other shitty (no pun intended) team I doubt the atmosphere would have been anywhere near the level last night. I certainly don't think it was a red hot atmosphere when they were regularly getting knocked out in the group stages by no name teams.
Most of our CL games against the big teams had an amazing atmosphere at the start or when we were winning, it just dies out soon afterwards when we eventually start conceding. That game against United in the CL where Almunia fucked up that log range free kick had possibly the biggest buzz in the stadium I'd heard but we all know how that ended. Fans get up for big games against the big teams and usually need the team to get them up for games against teams they feel they should be beating comfortably.

Right? At the moment they're still both behind wengers body of work between 06-12. I assume it's because both clubs had been domestic no marks for most of the premier league era, so people gas them both up a little too much now that they're achieving top 4 status regularly
It doesn't matter. What matters is that right now they are far better than us with far better managers for the modern era.
We are a sixth placed club at best, and will sink further unless drastic action occurs in a couple of months' time.
Liverpool were amazing last night. Credit to Klopp and his team. They are a prime example of what hard work and good coaching can do to a team. From the Liverpool XI that started last night I'd only take Salah and Mané at Arsenal.
It did help them massively though that Sané had a huge offday and that City were without Aguero. Incredible they didn't manage to score against that Liverpool defence.
I'd honestly take 3 of their defenders over ours - Van Dijk, Robertson and Arnold. They have built a good team - fit for Klopp's purpose.

I was speaking generally. Not specific to yesterday's game. Anfield on a Champions League night is remarkable. I enjoy the pre-game. It's one of the most satisfying things as a neutral, no matter what I think about the club. When they faced Dortmund in Europa League and all the fans in the stadium sang in unison: beautiful!
So proud. City got dealt with. Bring on Barca please footballing gods. Feel like we can beat anyone with the way we press.
How many teams’ forums have you gloated on today, Anfield?

0-5 away, 4-3 at home in the league. Let the eggs hatch. Invoke all the anti jinx gods first.

Yep, it helps to have a bloody anthem to sing to though. Even when they are losing 3-0 against Dortmund in the Europa League few years ago their fans didn't give up and the atmosphere was electric when they equalised. If it happens to us you can guarantee boos even before half time and our atmosphere will turn toxic very fast.
Arnold their young RB was the main reason why Sane was so bad. He marked him out of the game completely. He's been very impressive this season, and is a fantastic crosser of the ball.

I know, all I am saying is that I don't think it's abnormal for a club's fans to be up for a big night against another big team with the resulting atmosphere being electric on the night (at least as long as there is something still left to play for). We have seen it many times in our big games in Europe before the days fans knew we were only good enough to be knocked out in the last 16. Our home games against Milan and Liverpool in 2007-08, the first few minutes if the United game in 2009 as well as both home legs against Barca in 2010 and 2011 all had electric atmospheres.
It's only when playing shit teams, or when your team has proven themselves to be shit by being battered or having nothing to play for that the crowd becomes dead. Granted Liverpool might be slightly louder when they are on one of their big game nights but let's not pretend like their fans are generally like this, even in the CL. I remember the days in late 2000's early 2010's when they were being knocked out at the group stages of the CL and early on in the EL with barely a win under their belts. There is no way their fans were pushing their teams during those games.
You hardly ever see fans pumped up and pushing their team on unless it is a big game. And big game can mean the club is playing against a quality opponent, having a local rivalry or a competitive rivalry with the opponent, or because there is a lot left at stake coming into the tail end of the season. It's probably why you see these kinds of atmospheres later on in the season when there is something to fight for and not in the early stages of a season. I think this is a normal behaviour of fans from almost any big club.
I do think Liverpool's fans, players and the club in general approach these games with a bigger mentality than Arsenal. They know how to pump themzslves up in big games.
Liverpool have a good chance. Think they will trouble Barca but may not beat Madrid over two legs.
We'll beat anyone. Salah is here to reign supreme.
The sheer pace of Liverpool's attack will trouble anyone including Barca and Madrid especially the latter who don't have a lot of pace to match. On the other hand imagine the likes of Lovren and Klavan trying to stop Messi and Ronaldo...
They could also still go out against City. A lot of stranger things have happened before in football.
City are more than capable of it, it's a tough ask though.
I can't see them going all the way.
