MistaT I think they're great. There's pretty much two elements to the sound: Molly Rankin who's from a multi-generational family of Celtic folk nerds and has one of those amazing bell-like folk voices, and her partner the guitar guy who's as obsessed with guitar sounds as Shields, Marr or McGeoch. BLUE REV is a very very good jangly guitar pop album with an abundance of Smiths, REM, Pretenders, Siouxsie, MBV et al. references. Superb live act of the "sounds just like they're in the studio" kind as well.

Really been getting into Ball Park Music recently - Stars in My Eyes is a lovely song.

They're a good band for sure. Probably one of the most talented of the contemporary Aussie indi bands IMO.

Daz I got Amyl and the Sniffers latest, Cartoon Darkness, yesterday. Very into it.. Don't know how they're doing in their homeland but I absolutely love their guitar sound.

Post-punk. Quirky eh. Not sure who they remind me of but all their tracks seem to have an adrenaline inducing back beat.

Probably an acquired taste but it’s got me.

      U.K. Grim is another gem

Had a couple of listens to Sam Fender's new album yesterday and it's pretty great. I imagine it will grow on me event more after a few more listens. The guy is a serious talent.

Anyone give Louis Dunford a listen to other than The Angel (North London Forever song)?

Went to see him the other night and he was great. It's a real strange balance of songs. You've got a bunch where it's talking about drug taking, growing up and generally being a bit of a tearaway, which attracts the laddy/geezer football-type crowd, many of whom we clearly off their face and relishing in songs about drug taking. But then there's this really quiet, introspective side that is quite vulnerable and deals with his experiences of seeing the struggles of friends around him with addiction and sexuality, his own depression, and his friend dying in his arms after being stabbed when they were 16. I actually remember it, as some of the London based lot might, as his friend was Ben Kinsella and it got a fair bit more media coverage than usual due to his sister being an Eastenders actress at the time.

Some really nice storytelling in his songs. Worth a listen.

Picked up new albums by Bdrmm, the Horrors and Marie Davidson in the last week, they're all bangers. We like the Horrors one (Night Life) so much we're off to see them in November.

New Doves is excellent too, albeit quite downbeat by their standards!

RocktheCasbah I’m not quite sure on Doves without Jimi. I get why he’s not involved and why the brothers have continued in his absence, but not sure it does it for me. May be a grower. I do hope there’s a future with him though.

Tam James feels exactly the same as you, so I do understand that.

Personally, I was, and remain, a huge fan of the Black Rivers project so whilst of course I miss Jimi, him not being around so much doesn't affect my enjoyment of the music being put out. It certainly didn't affect my enjoyment of their gig at the Shepherds Bush Empire a couple of weeks back! The brothers are good enough musicians in their own right.

As for the future, I do hope Jimi returns and I'm sure he will but I read an interview with him a couple of weeks back and he's dealing with a lot more than the addiction issues which have been widely reported.

Went to see Ditz at Chalk in Brighton on Friday. Great gig then ended up in a bar with them after. Felt a bit starstruck talking to the lead singer and found myself not knowing what to say.
