So if that turns out to be an ACL, added to Holding and Chambers that's 3 in the same team within the space of about 12 months which surely can't be normal. I appreciate this one came as a result of a reckless foul and after a long break, but we seem to suffer so many long term muscle and ligament injuries compared to other teams. Is there something that makes our players more susceptible to this type of injury? Something wrong with training methods, or conditioning? Are players worked too hard in training so they are knackered by the time they get to the game? Or like we do with much of the playing squad are our physio and medical staff inadequate because we won't pay for the best ones? Do we just seem to sign brittle players whose bodies are not up to the physical demands of the modern game? Or is it simply bad luck?

Would be interested in Speedy's take.

We do suffer more injuries than other teams. Theres no one thing that causes injury. I could make you do bicep curls to absolute failure. We could do it 1000x and you might get 2 bicep tears or you might get one.

Change in training is a big risk factor. The individual's susceptibility to injury is a big factor. Previous injury is the biggest risk factor for another injury. So it has a snowballing effect

Their is injury prevention stuff you can do for ACLs and it reduces the risk. Everyone does it jts old science at this stage and I'm sure we do it.

Why our risk is higher this season 3 different managers and a stop start league. Creates big changes in intensity so the body is less used to the load your putting on it and more likely to pick up injuries.

Longer term wise

Quality of sleep and general fatigue and stress contribute to impeding the immune system and repair. And increases injury risk. And playing for arsenal is hugely stressful so the increase in injuries will certainly be linked to that. And that's why it'll continue despite the changes in managers coaches and players.

There was an article (Athletic?) saying that some of our players lost three days of training late before the restart due to Corona. Could that have something to do with our many injuries in the last week?

Martinelli out for the season with a knee injury.
But the great news is that Leno has not suffered ligament damage which was initially presumed. He will be out for six weeks. - James Benge from football london.

Home steak. Please go away and come back with appropriate Martinelli news.

Yeah sorry about that, that's the news from orny. Meniscus, they are sweating over how bad it is...

How did Martinelli damage his meniscus - training accident?

They were just rumors on twitter. But now it's on arse dot com. Not meniscus in the end.

Gabriel Martinelli
Left knee. Sustained cartilage injury during training on Sunday. Further assessments and tests to take place in forthcoming days.

Pablo Mari
Left ankle. Sustained significant sprain to ankle ligaments during Manchester City (a) on Wednesday. Further assessments and specialist consultations to take place in forthcoming days to establish recovery programme. Likely to return to action in two to three months.

Bernd Leno
Right knee. Positive news after detailed assessments. Sustained moderate ligament sprain during Brighton & Hove (a) on Saturday. Aiming to return to full training in four to six weeks.

The club say it’s cartilage damage
Let’s hope it doesn’t require surgery. Would probably need at least 2 months with rehab if that is the case.
This has to be witchcraft

Shame for Gabi, but that update is actually great news on both Leno and Mari. Both should be fit and ready at the start of next season then. The last few games of this one are a writeoff anyway.

Agree. Hopefully, they can be fit early within the season. They don’t need to participate in this bumbaclat. I’m actually fine with this 10th place finish. It gives Arteta a platform to do a the proper clean up and we play without trips to Vladivostok

fucking hell it really does not stop.

Leno being back for 20-21 is a gift at this point.

Also means we don't need to change our transfer targets to compensate ahead of the new season.

Our transfer targets are anyway dictated by things other than unimportant stuff like putting a balanced team out on the pitch. Don't think this would have had any impact anyway.

That's huge if he was out for a year with and ACL and then a stop start season to get back to full fitness, we'd have needed to buy a top keeper to tie us over for 2 seasons that'd have hoovered up our transfer budget. Martinez is terrible. I know he hasn't made many mistakes yet this time but hes just not good so it's a ticking time bomb.

Sucks about Martinelli, the golden chico. Hopefully we don't break Saka in the run in. His demand has been extremely high.

Gabriel Martinelli

Does this mean he'll be back by September?

They don't give enough detail to know recovery times. If you shave the cartilage its a quick recover if you stitch it, its super slow. If you have to repair the cartilage on the bone its a year.

If its just a shave (the most common one) he'll be back at the start of next season.
