This is the happiest I’ve been in a while. Timber, White and MLS will be the strongest fullback selection we’ve had in a while.

Claudius I will be as positive as this if we sign another forward. Otherwise I think we'll fall way short.

Just realised that Arteta said Calafiori couldn't finish the training session before Zagreb along with MLS although he still put him on the bench but didn't bring him on.

If he ever gets fit I think he needs to be managed going forward ie 1 game a week only until his body can hack more. He is basically our new Tomiyasu.

Panda and that's very bad, we shouldn't be recruiting such injury prone players especially when there are indicators it could be a risk.

Let’s get him back and see what’s going on.
Tomi seems to have tendinitis issues according to people in the know. There is little hope for him having a vigorous, productive career. The Italian, on the other hand, seems to have a series of muscular issues which might come from adaptation to our training / playing environment. For now, I’m less worried about him.

Cala is on the bench today and was in training pics so hopefully they are managing him now.

Is that what it is with him? If that's true, I really feel for the guy. I know from my personal experience, it's an absolute nightmare trying to recover. There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to doing so successfully. Which explains his repeated issues.

Claudius it is. I'm almost into year 4 now (not to worry anyone about Tomi!)

Sorry to hear that RTC, all the best. Hopefully some find a bit more empathy for our “injury prone” players.

I haven't read any Tomiyasu rumours prior to today, but if tendonitis was supposed to be his original injury, then the fact he's still out means it's tendonosis.

Once tendon collagen degrades in chronic cases, the fibre separation is usually filled by junk ground substance and junk veins - which is ok for everyday folk but not so much for high level athletes. If he's lucky, he's responding well to physical therapy like eccentric strengthening, which may leave his collagen in a healthier state than the DMZ it resembles now.

Rosicky, IIRC, developed tendonosis in the 07/08 season and came back less than half the player. It's not the player's fault unfortunately. The human body has crude repair mechanisms and there is no guaranteed treatment to fully reverse damage caused by tendonosis.

flobaba thanks mate. I'm on the comeback trail again, but it's very taxing on the old mental health...

RocktheCasbah From memory it's the issue that put a huge dent in Vermaelen's career.

With Calafiori, at least he has a very clear idea of the demands of the league now. Perhaps he can get his body ready for a stronger 25–26.

            4 days later

            on team news:
There’s no news from the game against City, Ben [White] is still out. Hopefully after the break, he will be available, Saka not yet.

on if Bukayo Saka could be back in March:
            I don’t know.

Good that White will be back after Dubai. Hopefully Saka after March international break.

on whether he can confirm a Dubai trip after Newcastle:
            I think it’s coming!

on how he will approach the trip:
There are a lot of things that will be similar, the location, where we are staying, where we train, but of course we will have to modify it. We are going at a different moment of the season with different numbers, and probably the team needs a different stimulus, so we are preparing a few things and hopefully it will work like it has the last few times.

Be a nice break and refresher for the team hopefully.

Having Saka back would be even huger. But oh well
