For me even if Saka is "back" I think with an injury like his could take time for him to get back to the kind of level he's been out so I wouldn't be expecting as much from him for the remainder of the season even if he did become available at some point in march.
Injury Thread...It's Never Ending
Really bad news as we are now down to Havertz, Trossard, Sterling and Nwaneri as our attacking options.
Maybe Zinchenko, Tierney and Calafiori will get some time upfront soon
Good thing we kept our powder dry and didn't do anything silly in January like sign a forward.
The club deserves this.
Not signing someone I can kind of get my head around, it annoys the fuck out of me but I understand. But the least we can do is bolster our numbers up and bring back players on loan, even if they sit on the bench it is better to have them in the squad than not.
We will play our U18's
If only there was some way to foresee we didn't have enough in attack. It's almost like you need some period in the season when you're allowed to add to the squad or something like that.
The bigger issue here is whatever led to Edu’s departure and the endless process of replacing him. Understand there aren’t a million experienced top club DoFs, but this is turning into a half year issue.
I don't get moaning about not signing anyone in the Jan window. Fundamentally, that was always highly unlikely for a number of reasons and the fact that we didn't end up signing anyone last month isn't a sign of poor decision-making (if anything, it's a sign of strategic thinking) for the reasons others have already outlined.
The mistake was the summer window.
Don Pacifico recency bias
New information makes a difference. In light of the Saka and Jesus injuries, it feels reckless to have not found a stopgap. I think committing large amounts of money to a player we aren’t sure about would be stupid, but we could’ve looked for a stopgap like Kolo Muani
Don Pacifico its 2 mistakes in a row. They fucked up the summer and were according to reports doing nothing to solve it until Jesus injury. They should have realised they messed up the summer and been working on a forward in January from Sept. Even when Saka went down they thought we were fine.
The summer is where we really fucked up, the January window you either get taken to the cleaners or end up getting lucky. Unless you are buying one of your targets you can't get taken to the cleaners imo.
Qwiss rectifying the mistake in Jan was never realistic as per Jazz's post.
Don Pacifico only because Stan doesn't really give a shit.
Don Pacifico there were solutions available. We just didn't act quickly or decisively enough.
Qwiss I think that's a subjective reading of the situation. It's certainly not I how I view it.
Don Pacifico well according to Ornstein they moved pretty late for Watkins. I don't see what stopped that happening in the first week of the window. And that's just the most obvious option.
Qwiss what's also been reported is that Watkins wasn't high on our list (ie. Didn't fit our strategy). Frankly, I'm not convinced diverting from the strategy was the right thing in this situation given the likely gain it would have given us versus the impact on our longer-term recruitment. Watkins or not, I think we're pretty unlikely to win the league this season.
I also don't think that even if we'd have bid earlier we can assume we would have landed him.
