I'm probably blind, but I just don't see all that much in Kante.

Thats because you ignored Leicester and haven't watched their games because you assumed they'd drop off like 95% of people.

Because there really isn't that much to Kante, to his credit he's defensively impressive and possesses one of the best engines around but he's not particularly good with the ball that any team looking to play possession based football will play him as a holder and he's not anything special going forward.

In a 3 man midfield he'd be a very good player, like Napoli's Allan or PSG's Matuidi, a shuttling midfielder that offers a bit of everything. Madrid need a player like this to support Kroos & Modric, but we already have Elneny & Ramsey who are of a similar mould.

they really aren't

id happily sell coq and replace him with kante

Elneny and Ramsey are in no way similar to Kante besides having a good engine.

Just seems he chases the ball down and kicks it to a wide player. I mean, Leicester won the league, but lets not pretend that their players are better than they are. If they were, then winning the league wouldn't have been so impressive or so strange.

Oh I get your point now Coombs and I agree.
That was what was so exhilarating about this Leicester triumph, it proved beyond doubt that with the right coaching man managing and system a motley collection of journeymen can be whipped lnto shape and become champions.
And players despite having supposed better technical qualities are still only men and who suffer from the same doubt and disillusionment as everyone else when badly led.

Wenger loves his bargins.

All a 30 goal a season striker does is put the ball into the back of the net.

Xhaka and Kante double pivot with Ozil in front?

Making Coquelin and Elneny substitutes kinda makes sense if these guys are better, and they'll still get loads of games anyways but where would this leave Ramsey? On the wing? Out the door?

I wouldn't expect Wenger to be ruthless enough to 'kill' Cazorla either - he's been one of our best players when fit the past 2 seasons at CM.

if we get xhaka and kante i have a feeling there's at least 1 big departure brewing. ramsey, cazorla, or ozil

but then wenger did say this yesterday

“We want to keep the squad stable over the summer while strengthening where possible,” Wengertold press on Friday.

“You want the group to be stimulated and to believe that we have improved the quality.

“I must say, we want to combine technical stability with players that we know want to play and know our game. Maybe bring in three players for example. That’s the right level for me.”

No chance we're getting both. It took us three transfer windows for our last two outfield players to arrive in Elneny and Gabriel and neither starts for us which Xhaka and Kanté would

You haven't heard?

We are losing Flamini. 🙁

Why do people give credence to what Wenger says about transfers.

The man never gives straight answers.

If we get both I'd see it as confirmation that we'd be inverting the pyramid in midfield and playing Ozil on the wing.

-------Xhaka
---Kanté---Ramsey
Ozil-----------Sanchez
--------Striker

--------Cazorla (or maybe Wilshere)
---Coquelin---El Nenny
Wilshere-------------Iwobi
----------Giroud

We should be so lucky to get 3 signings without losing anyone significant.

3 signings will probably be a backup RB, Xhaka and some kid for the reserves.

Wenger has a thing he does where he buys loads of players for the same position while willfully neglecting others. It used to be attacking midfielders neglecting defensive ones...now he's just flipped it 'round on us.

Xhaka-Kante-Ramsey would be a half-decent imitation of Alonso-Mascherano-Gerrard.

If we sign a midfielder, I'm willing to have a friendly wager that Ramsey will not be a starter in midfielder for us.
