I suspect we're going to play with three central mids next season anyway, similar to how Juve used to line up. That's why we're rumored to be after Xhaka Granit too.
Something like Xhaka being the deepest player in front of the defence spraying passes around with two workhorses ahead of him (kanté+Ramsey)?
That'd be great but where does Ozil go?
Lol@coquellin being most underrated player in this forum.
Kante is a one season wonder so far.
Kante would be terrible for arsenal, you have to understand a player in the context of the team and he suit Leicester perfectly. We need someone with aggression but also the passing ability, xhaka stands out there.
In our current system it's difficult to see where Kante fits in. He's not really good enough on the ball to play alongside a holding player and he's untested as a holding player. In a 3 man midfield he'd be great but I don't see that happening with Ozil in the side.
3 man midfield, ozil on the left, sanchez on the right and a real goal scorer up top.

How much consistency has Coquelin shown over an extended period?

Well Coquelin's a zero-season wonder in that case, so there's that. Kanté helped Leicester win Premier League and he just coasted past everyone right into the same french national team where Coquelin can't even get a call-up during a free-for-all trial round.
Coq's a good player, but he's not elite. Anyone who thinks he is has been taken in by Wenger's excuses for not strengthening the midfield properly.
Hopefully the links to Xhaka are real and we get him in. If Wenger really believes Coquelin is top class I don't think he'll move for Xhaka - don't see them making a good pairing.
Kante is not someone I'd sign but he's a good player.

coq has been largely average this season. he came in hot on the back of his return to arsenal and wanting to prove himself, but he's settled back his mean level this season imo. if we can improve on him, we should.
and yes i believe kante is the better player

Out wide on the right I'd imagine, but basically doing whatever he wants.
Arsenal reps have met with N'Golo Kanté's entourage on several occasions. Arsenal intend to pay the player's release clause of €25m. Will face competition from Man city & Chelsea (RMC)
€25m release clause, bargain.
Hopefully it's with Xhaka, Kante being our primary or only midfield signing would just be silly business. At the most it strengthens attributes we've already got in our team, 2 vertical MF runners is enough for any team, we need someone that can pass it vertically.
This was reported by both RMC and L'equipe. They used to be pretty reliable a while a go. Don't know about know.
assuming the release clause is real and we're keen, i can see this being done quickly. guardiola wouldnt fancy him, and i doubt he'll go to spurs. that just leaves us
chelsea wouldve been a big threat if they had cl football
Coquelin puts his head where it hurts and as a Premier League team, with an already soft style, it's a more important attribute than people give credit. He broke his nose like times in a row last season doing just that. That kind of mentality seeps into the rest of the team and sets a tone. We've already got the Ozils, Girouds and Walcotts to send us the other way, we don't need any more of it.
Kante would probably come in and progressively shy away from 50/50s as he adapts to Wenger's management.
Why would Kante do this "as he adapts to Wenger's management" when Coquelin doesn't?
It's just rare to go through Wenger's management and come out the other side a fighter. I haven't noticed a particularly hard style in Kante anyway so whatever of it he does have currently will be more susceptible to vanishing once he sees Ozil actively trying not to block any shots by running the opposite direction, or Giroud falling like his testicles have been removed because an opposition player caressed his arm while jumping, or Theo just being Theo.
It's because Wenger signs these types of players not because he turns them into it.
