There's only so much you can find out about a player beforehand, though. At the end of the day you sign players predominantly based on the quality or promise they've shown on the pitch. I do think Arsenal put more emphasis on character than most clubs, and that's not really a commendable thing in my opinion. We're assembling a football team, not a church choir. Our scouts still manage to get plenty of things wrong too. There's very little evidence that they're doing a good job compared to their peers at other clubs; in fact, most of the evidence points to the contrary.
