Women weren't allowed to work when Biggus grew up.

A couple years later the industrial revolution took place and things started to change though.

My bad. I always keep forgetting what it was like when Biggus grew up.

having someone in the family manage is a recipe for disaster.

It is, but I don't think that was Biggus's point.

She seems to be doing a terrible job, but a parent managing his/her child is hardly unheard of.

I think it makes sense to have a parent as part of your representatiln when you are a young player. Need someone in there thinking about your future rather than just how much money you can make right now.

I agree with that, but this particular mother doesn't seem to help her son tbh.

She probably still ties his boot laces for him.

Worked for Hamilton for a while, when he was a prodigy. Had to fire his father later on though.

It's stupid, it takes agents years to learn to negotiate with Nike, addidas and big sponsors and most importantly with clubs. A good agent will be able to talk with clubs get stories printed in good newspapers. Play clubs off against each other. Get the right financial advisors in so their money makes money. Get houses in the right area that will go up in value.
In the same way a good footballer will think faster than the average person can on a field. A good agent is always 2 or 3 steps ahead in a conversation/ negotiation they're highly skilled. You can get a good independent agent for 5%. And he'll make you a lot more than he costs.

Yeah but can a good agent tuck you in and kiss you goodnight?

Well they babysit rather than mother them, and organise world class girls to meet you in any major city. You want a holiday in Dubai with with three 10's waiting in your bed when you get there? That's what your agent does.

Dont players have multiple agents? I doubt his mother is negotiating with Nike on her own.

Are you available speedy? You make it sound like if I signed you to be my agent you could get me houses in the right areas and three 10s to wait in my bed everywhere in the world. I'll even give you 10% of my wages.

If you can get me three 10s waiting in bed on me, for only 10% of my wages, you, sir, must be a miracle worker not a football agent.

Nike would happily negotiate with her.

So would clubs. She may have to hire a shite agent. You can give let say a Spanish agent a mandate to act on your behalf so he can use his contacts to try get clubs to take his call and offer the player to spanish clubs. But most agents who work on mandates have hardly any players there just chancing their arm. And you'd still have to pay him. You may aswell just get an agent yourself. Because the guy who works with you for years will actually have a career plan and know you abilities inside out and how to sell you.

At the end of the day any contract is up to the player so he could still talk to his mam relating to his career.

You may not get the best deal with Speedy but your hamstrings will be in tip top shape.

Sure but I have first dibs on the 10's, you can have first dips on the 9's and below. If I'm an agent I'm definitely sticking to the 10s.

@[deleted] most English players will have one agent. But foreign players tend to have more than one. They may have agents representative of third party ownerships. An agent they've had back home and a European one. And a contract advisor who wouldn't negotiate but would understand football contracts which get very complicated.
in theory you could have as many agents as you want. Agency's will ring players who are already represented and promise more money ect. But the more agents someone has the more they have to pay so it makes sense to only have one.

Interesting stuff Speedy. I take it a contract advisor is a lawyer then?

Then again, you know, there is just a slight possibility his mom isn't an absolute gobshite and knows what she is doing. Why waste an ectra 10% of your wage just so you could have someone hire prozzies for you?
