  • Other clubs transfer thread 2015 (Latest: Man City sign De Bruyne)

Their highest earner is Hazard at 200k a week and other key first team members like Cesc earn 150k a week. I doubt he'll be paid similar or more to that which is why the word substantial pay cut has been mentioned in the article.

So if they pay Falcao above or around 100k a week and we pay Welbeck that much then your's is not a valid argument.

There is a reason why they didn't go for Shaw because they weren't willing to pay his wages. Chelsea have become effective in salaries and transfers now.

Here's some quotes from Mourinho himself:

“They would have been saying, ‘How is it possible I play 200 games for this club, won this and that, yet a 19-year-old comes here and gets more money than I get?’

“It would’ve killed immediately our balance and we couldn’t allow that. I don’t criticise another club for paying it. They can pay what they want. I don’t have any comment about it. But for my club we can say it would be very negative for us, especially when we can say Felipe is much less expensive. Sometimes you have to make decisions.”

As I said, I don't think Welbeck was bought for a squad role. Falcao will be, and to me that makes a difference. I also doubt, highly, that Welbeck is on similar wages as any club will have to pay Falcao.

Is Welbeck really on that much? Not that many of our players get in and around the 100k mark, even now.

I don't think he is anywhere near 100k, but I have absolutely nothing to back that up.

The reality is that we paying about 250-300k on Podolski, Welbeck, Campbell and Sanogo and getting little returns.

Further we have a lot of money to spend on players.

Welbeck's on 100k a week. If he's going to Chelsea they aren't paying him what their first choice players are earning. No business works that way. It's exactly as Mourinho said. If Falcao comes in on even 150-200k a week half the squad will be demanding better contracts.

Same, he definitely could be, but considering the fuss we used to make about paying players that amount in the past - it could either indicate a shift in our wage structure or we're just ballin' out of control now.

Those wages don't look accurate. He was getting 75k at Utd.

When a young player signs a new long term contract it's likely to include a raise but believe what you want to believe.

Anyway here is a guardian report-

"Manchester United are in a frantic final push to recoup as much money as possible before the transfer window closes following Ángel di María’s £59.7m arrival by offloading a string of high-earning fringe players, with this driving the decision to allow Danny Welbeck, who could cost up to £20m and earns at least £80,000 a week, to depart."

So getting a bit more to tie yourself to a long term deal isn't actually beyond the realms of imagination.

Agreed, but that would be contradictory to the club's wage policy which is also famously rigid. Particularly the Telegraph article which has him down at 115k which would make him the third highest earner at the club.

Not really. Ramsey, Sanchez, Ozil all earn more while the likes of Podolski, Wilshere, Walcott earn similar.

And remember this is before the likes of Wilshere and Walcott have had their contracts re-negotiated which will happen soon.

Regardless, I find it hard to believe Falcao will be willing to drop his salary by anything close to 160k a week. To put that in context, that's sacrificing £8m a year for the privilege of being a sub at Chelsea.

Well, that's exactly my point.

By wage structure I'm referring to the fact that only our key players get paid the highest wages at the club. I'm not saying the club are unwilling to spend money, it's just that they're pick as to who gets the nice pay check. Sanchez, Ramsey, Ozil and...Danny Welbeck. Spot the odd one out.

Wilshere, Podolski, Giroud and Walcott get around the 100k mark but at the time that they signed the contract, all four of them have been considered to be first choice in our starting 11.

I just find it against how we operate as a club that Welbeck would get that salary as a squad player.

Well we'll have to wait and see where he goes but no club in the top 4-5 leagues is going to offer him close to his current terms and there is only a select set of club's that can even pay 150k a week or more. So he doesn't have many options.

If money was his motivation then he'd complete his contract at Monaco.

Well at the time Welbeck came in we were firstly desperate, secondly Welbeck comes in as an England international who command premium wages anyway and thirdly came in with a better reputation than he has now. Presumably that was also pitched to him that he'd have a big role which is why he l eft one club where he got limited time and wanted to go to another where he'd get to play and thus asked for a salary which befitted such a role and got it. Further Welbeck is locked to a contract where he'd be turning 29 at the end of it. To put that into context were he to be a success here he'd probably get to renew it once.

Maybe in your head.

His first season with Arsenal has not changed his reputation at all.

Actually if you go through the thread in the main forum when he signed and what the same people think now there is a change.

People were just being hopeful. Most people think he's not great, they thought the same this time last year. The odd England supporter rates him, and Rex. Thats about it.
