Southampton have rejected the bid. They got £15m for Chambers, £20m for Lovren and £30m for Luke Shaw. Clyne hasn't looked worse than any of them (granted he's older than Chambers and Shaw).

It looks as though Swansea City are close to securing the services of Dutch international Ola John from Benfica.

The 23-year-old joined Benfica in 2012 in a deal worth up to 12 million euros, but now appears to be close to a move to the Liberty.

"It was always a dream of Ola to play in the Premier League," his brother and representative, Collins John, told Voetbal International.

"There was interest from other clubs in the Premier League, but Ola has the best feeling in Swansea City."

Villareal striker Luciano Vietto, who is wanted by Liverpool, has invited Atletico Madrid to meet his €20m buyout clause this summer.

The Argentinian had an excellent debut season in Spain, scoring 20 goals in 48 appearances, and a number of teams are now believed to be on his trail, including Atletico, Barcelona and Real Madrid.

The striker is under contract until 2019, but he has a relatively affordable €20m buyout clause and believes a move to Atletico would be the best outcome for all parties involved.

He told Radio Vila-real: “No-one can guarantee what will happen in the future, but my idea is to be here when they call us. If Atletico come with €20m I will decide with my family and my representative. We will try to take the best decision but if they pay the buyout clause I think that everyone benefits.

“At the moment there is nothing, they are only rumours and my head is at Villarreal.

Replacing Drogba with Falcao. Makes them stronger for sure, but some serious money to pay for a sub. Another example of what Arsenal as a club can't afford to do.

What we can do is sign a striker and we have the resources to do it.

If Falcao signs for a substantial pay-cut it won't be that far from Welbeck's 100k a week.

The fact is that we have two players contributing next to nothing in goals and costing us 200k a week. (Welbeck and Podolski)

We have more money on top of that plus the biggest cash reserve in England.

If we don't sign a striker then it's not because we can't afford one.

We can afford players of course, but we can't afford to sign players on wages like that knowing that they will be squaddies. Podolski was bought as a starter and we are looking to offload, and I am willing to bet that Welbeck was bought with the view of him taking a place in the starting XI too. Welbeck has played most games he has been available for anyway, so I don't think the comparison with Falcao is valid for that reason too.
