It's just Bayern's blame mentality. Has to cover the fact they weren't good enough, so let's attack the 22 year old who played fifteen minutes instead of guys like Lewandowski and Müller who were shown up.

May be a blame mentality, but there's always some reason for it as well. If Lewa & Müller did all they could, then you cant exactly blame them for not being good enough.

They were both shocking last night. Has nothing to do with either of them being limited players, or even lacking quality compared to the opposition. Müller was Germany's POT when they won the World Cup 9 months ago and it's only been two years since Lewandowski scored four on Real Madrid. These are the guys you'd expect to step up against Barcelona.

Depay to Man U I like not at all, as Yoda would say. Boy looks destined for stardom. 🙁

I think Ricardo Kishna and El Ghazi are bigger talents from the Dutch league.

Somehow Wenger seems to have decided that the Dutch league is not worth it. Can't think of anyone except Overmars who has been brought in from there. While success in the Eredivisie has proved to be not too reliable, don't know if we are missing out talents there who are worth a shot, although over the last ten years, only 2-3 Eredivise players have made it big in England - RvN, Suarez, Eriksen.

Lol...yeah...I just blanked him out I guess 🙂 It still feels like a small number though.

Bought Vermaelen from Holland too.

He's had one good season since he left the Netherlands, and a lot of that was due to his offensive contributions. Don't count him as a winning buy.

What has he ever done outside of the Eredivisie? Ryo Miyaichi lit up that league ffs.

He's also got a good international record. Did well in the WC and was in the top three for YPOT I think. He also has a Bale-like build and style which is well suited to the Premiership. Of course, he may well flop, but I think it's more likely he will do well in a Man U style setup, with his characteristics.

What's a "Man u style setup"? The same style that makes one of the best wingers in the world look like one of the worst?

Until they can show they can play without Fellaini as the focal point they'll be shit.

He was better in his first season where he formed a superb partnership with Gallas at the back. Defensively so solid that year.

*makes one of the best midfielders look like an average winger

Di Maria has never in his career been one of the best wingers in the world. He became world class when moved to the middle, became average when moved back to the wing. That's why Depay will do better, he actually is a winger.

He has been a winger every season in his entire career except the one where he was world class.

I liked him better on the wing, I think. Fearsome dribbler. His awareness isn't good enough centrally, but he's a weapon out wide with that technique and pace. Few have the ability to do what he does at such a high speed. People make too much of the numbers he racked up in his last season for Real Madrid.

The numbers he racked up weren't that good in his last season, they were better the season before. It's just that he played much, much better. On the wing he was always inconsistent. His last season was a relevation, he made every Real Madrid supporter think that they sold the right player out of him and Özil. Whether it was just because he developed as a player or if it was because he changed position, no one can know. All I do know is that his best season came when he played centrally.

I watched him and I didn't agree with that. He looked like a typical Ancelotti midfielder in the sense that he would work all over the field, which is something that players like Özil will never do, but he wasn't that outstanding. Grafter with great technique, basically. The money Real got for him will go down as one of the biggest ripoffs in football.

Di Maria is definitely a winger, what he played last season wasn't CM but a position that pretty much isn't played anywhere else. He starts centrally and drifts to the flank as soon as he gets to the ball, opposition players couldn't live with him because he's an excellent high speed dribbler and because the respective teams are never set up to counter a player that moves wide from a central position.

This. He (and Ramires) also played the same role at Benfica which brought him to people's attention. As for ManU's style, they have always played a muscular style down the wings, from Giggs to Ronaldo and now Depay. Let's see how good he will be, but I think he'll do well, more likely than not.

Ronaldo wasn't all that muscular at United and Giggs wasn't either. Giggs was always getting knocked over but he played for United so he got loads and loads of protection.

Ronaldo was quite powerful during his productive years at United and Giggs was also an explosive runner, not a classical dribbler. It's a style that has pervaded United through the years - Depay fits that quite well, in my opinion. Time alone will tell though.

Seems like he even has Ronaldo's technique for free kicks...

Depay is a bit shorter than Ronaldo, which was one of Ronaldo's biggest strengths, he reminds me more of Nani.

Well, if Nani scored goals he would be a world class player...

Schalke defender Benedikt Howedes has long been linked with a move to the Premier League and in recent months German newspaper Bild have been doing something of a sales job for him. Howedes is 27 years old and has repeatedly spoken of a desire to play for a Premier league club, with that leading to many in Germany thinking a transfer is a matter of when and not if.

Bild have claimed over the past month that even clubs like Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur would be able to afford Howedes due to the new TV deal for Premier League sides, they feel the money washing around means clubs considered outside the very top bracket are now able to poach players away from Germany's elite. It appeared that Bild were being encouraged by someone to push the idea of Howedes moving to the Premier League and in April they had a story saying he'd cost €18m, only to correct themselves a few days later by saying he actually had an exit clause of €17.5m during the next summer transfer window which would go down to €12.5m the summer afterwards.

This weekend Bild spoke to Howedes and put it to him that Schalke president Clemens Tonnies has said he should hold out for a dream move to somewhere like Arsenal, rather than settle for someone like Stoke City, Howedes agrees "I would never do a rush job, just so that I can get away. If I really should go, everything must fit."

Wolfsburg sign German international Max Kruse from Borussia Mönchengladbach.

Good player.

Point is we still don't know whether Depay can translate that goal scoring ability to the top level. Nani would score a ridiculous amount of goals in Holland even now, let alone when he was a proper player.

There was someone here raving about him just weeks ago. Think it was Jones.

Underrated talent.

Must have been somebody else. Decent player but not good enough for a top side, would look good for a team like Spurs or Southampton.

Patrick Herman is the real talent in that team.

It's Granit Xhaka for me, just a matter of time before he moves to a bigger European club. Reminds me of Gündogan couple years ago in the way he seems to have a second more than everyone else on the ball, much better defensively though and a bigger physical presence.

Yes, Xhaka is really good. Only issue I have with him is his overzealous tackling.

Chelsea are about to continue with their current strategy of signing up as many promising youngsters they can.

They are close to signing promising striker Robert Kenedy from Fluminense and attacking midfielder Nathan from Atletico Paranaense.

Nathan confirms his move to Chelsea.

Agree, he's in general quite immature and easily wound up. Reminds me of Wilshere in that aspect, he even looks like him.

And btw fuck Chelsea and the prick in charge of their 'asset management'. This is probably the worst aspect of modern football, buying youngsters for the odd chance that they make it but mostly for purely financial reasons.
