I agree. It's fucked up but if we are smart we will follow it. We give more young players chance compared to them and more will make it with us.

there is nothing fucked up about it. at that level most kids they bring through their academy or some kids they bring in for the first team, won't turn out to be good enough, but if the odd one does turn out to be great they got him for a good price. if he isn't, a quality club a rung down will be interested. the player isn't hurt by it. de bruyne and lukaku made more money at a younger age at chelsea than they would have in belgium and their "fall back" teams are everton paying 28m and wolfsburg paying 18m. that moved really harmed their career. i have nothing but praise for their transfers in the quality youth market because it's something we should have been doing from our lean years instead of taking speculative shots on the velas, denilsons, campbells. their failure rates are even higher than the more expensive ones chelsea are buying.

I'm not talking from the perspective of clubs like Chelsea or Arsenal of course but the clubs that have developed and nurtured them throughout their whole careers. Chelsea for example have absolutely nothing to do with the development of players like Lukaku or de Bruyne, yet they receive a combined 50m for them, compare that to the combined 10-15m Genk and Anderlecht got for them. If you think that's alright then fair enough, for me it's not as it's the same principle behind the growing gap between rich and poor in real economics, in the long run a concentration of money/talent on a select few is never a good thing.
