Thats re-writing history. As soon as Arteta arrived there was an energy and seriousness. Before that we had full control Stan allowing Raul to act shady and Mislintat signing his busted old mates. We had Unai looking for players and getting ones he never wanted. If we hadn't signed Arteta and he hadn't power pointed them into being serious I doubt it would have happened at all.

I know he's not everyone's cup of tea but imagine how good he will be in modern era where we have stats for pre-assists. Some of those dribbles is just stupidly good and his slide rule passes is probably one of the best we have along with Pires. The amount of poor finishing by others in this vid though (including Paris.. 🙁 )... he was a big reason why we were so good in the UCL those days, able to keep possession and quick in transition.

goon I think once the Kroenke's took full control they were willing to put in the money. I think initially when Raul was running things I think they were got stung a bit so had to take a step back.

Like you say when Arteta came in, him along with Edu bought some proper focus and strategy into our transfers.

It was both the having full control, and the fact that the club was sliding badly at that moment … certainly the investment has been about protecting their asset.

The big KSE incentive for keeping us around CL territory is the exit to some kind of entrenched "super league" and the step up in stock value from that … if we drop to the mid table for five years that falls into question.

Though he got the Saliba deal over the line and that has worked out great.

What a baller. Can you imaging him actually staying back then. Overmars leaving was fine, he was a permacrock and Pires was better for us anyways but Petit was just elite. Luckily we ended up getting Gilberto in the end after the world cup but Petit-Viera could have been so much better.
