Went through a few pages, but couldn't see a thread on this. wondered who played, where they palyed, what they thought their strengths and weaknesses were

I play 5,6 and 7-aside, I haven't played 11 since school. I play Right back, it seems to match my skill set. I have bags of stamina, too short to play CB, and stronger than I look, so can knock attackers off a ball and love a physical challenge. Attackers hate me. I don't play dirty, but I can get my foot in and often get enough of the ball to disrupt an attackers intentions. I get comments about having a good engine, or being like a bullet when the oppositions receiving a ball.

I'm having to curb my enthusiasm to clear a ball, so times it's not necessary. It's not a bad thing, but sometime I could be making more of the opportunity than hoof it. Sometimes when I clear the ball from my half, I aim as far up field towards the goal. Sometimes this catches everyone off guard and I score from my half.

I'm also having to curb my instinct to get the foot in and simply jostle the attackers, especially when I'm the final man before the goalie, as when I fail to get enough contact he clean on goal. I am becoming more vocal, but this is another skill to work on. It seems to come naturaly to some players and not to others.

I'm not a technical player at all, but I'm working on close ball skills. I've noticed my short passing game has come on loads now, and with it my confidence to go forward.

We often play 4 teams of 6-aside, playing the other 3 times in 30 min games. Everyone wants to attack, it's rare that anyone else has my defensive instincts, unless they prefer to play in goal. When everyone goes forward, I move to a more CB position. I'm always thinking about my positioning and always looking.

This has led to me being picked early for by team the more familiar everyone becomes with me, which in turn build my confidence.

I love it, I've grown proud to call myself a RB, and territorial about my quarter of the pitch.

Sure there must be an old thread somewhere but I play 11 a side in winter and 5 a side over summer. Been a goalkeeper ever since I started playing for a team at 12 so possibly started a bit later than many people. My team didn't have a full time keeper and being new I didn't have a position so I initially dabbled in half games up front and half in goal but found I quite liked playing in goal and wasn't bad at it so stayed there full time and 15 years later I'm still there. My Dad had been a rep field hockey goalie in his youth and my brother a rep wicket keeper so there must be some similar kind of natural skills we have inherited.

I play 11 a side in an over 35s league. Mostly play centre back now but played a lot of my younger years as a left back even though I'm right footed. Helped my left foot get pretty strong. Like you scooner I love the physical side of the game and getting on top of my opponent. I'm very vocal which is probably why I'm the team captain. While I love playing in defence I would probably prefer to play fullback or midfield so that I could get more of a chance to be creative and get involved. I'm a pretty good crosser and can lay on a good through ball. Unfortunately we have heaps of midfielders and very few defenders.

Centre-mid.

I'm boss and have no weaknesses.

Up front in 7 a side.

Poor finisher, lack composure under pressure, often don't get my head up. On the bright side I have excellent movement and and know how to beat a man.

DM, tenacious hard bastard in the Mascherano mould.

On the left. Basically a better version of Messi.

Right wing back/right winger. I moulded my style on Eboue.

I started on the flanks, as right fullback because I had pace and could generally beat my man. But I often struggle to get all the way back because of my lack of stamina. Thus I moved up to a winger, but often get lambasted for the failure to track attackers and help my fullbacks. Basically I am an extremely lazy no stamina player, poor man's Arshavin.

Discovered my new position 2 years ago as a pivot and basically just stay in front of the defence. I could pass really well though.

CAM / CDM.

Good: Everything apart from heading & vollies.

Striker. Mainly 7 aside these days.
Good: decent goal scorer, good close control & being 6'5 helps!
Bad: Lazy as fuck

RWB since i can defend AND cross. Can cover for CB since i can defend and im 6'3 or CDM since i can defend and spot a pass. These were my preferences. Dominated the air and had ok stamina. Like to be the "vocal leader" on and off the pitch.

Equally comfortable as a trequartista, a false 9 or even a regista at times but the manager usually plays me at right back.

Some shit footballers on here. πŸ˜†

RB these days - was playing a lot of 5 a sides and was sick of no one on my team defending so I moved back from more attacking positions to be a defender (play 2-2-1 in fives). Had always enjoyed the physical side and prided myself on delivery so it was a natural switch.

Play 11v11 once to twice a weak in a league and 5's once a week.....plus usually a pick up game or two.

More Sagna than Eboue.....

Im basically a Jenkinson πŸ˜†

Retired at 34. Anything other than 11 aside is for kids, so naturally I didn't play anything other than that since I was 14. Started out as a striker, played most of my football as a proper midfielder. Lack of pace was my only weakness, up to a certain level, have nutmegged Anders Limpar and went on to score. I win. πŸ™‚

For the record, the main difference between what we 'normal' guys lack compared to even Championship level players is the ability to process what goes on around us on the pitch fast enough. You can compensate to a certain degree with outstanding athleticism, but it won't get you far enough. Stamina, tackling, technique can all be practiced to a decent enough level, but not that.

I used to play RW but eventually my lack of pace led me back to CM. Got a decent range of passes on me and have decent dead ball ability. Have scored a couple of free kicks πŸ˜ƒ. My tackling is woeful though, always seem to miss the ball and get the ankle or leg...

Speak for yourself.

I started playing football (relatively) really late in life and never really got into 11 a side. I think I would've made a good CM if I'd started earlier since I'm a good all rounder kind of player and have stamina for days, but as it stands I can't challenge for a header and have no idea what's going on around the pitch. I do an OK job as a left winger, and have scored a couple of free kicks.

I'm not bad at 5-a-side though, just a bit goal shy.

Box to box midfield though i can play on the wing as i use both feet and have an accurate cross.
The strikers loves it that i always pass to their stronger foot so they don't have to break stride.
I'm good at defending in midfield but i hate headers so can't play striker or defence.
I have a lot of respect for FBs as whenever i've tried playing there, the wingers' pace and trickery has destroyed me everytime.

Nah, not for myself. I play centre mid and always have done; shit players generally get thrown in at fullback and lazy fucks imagine themselves in the 'makelele role'... πŸ˜†

πŸ˜† but then there's the deluded guys who think they're actually any good.

I've only ever played rugby and GAA with clubs, but in football matches between friends I'll usually play right wing. Banging in crosses and bursting through the channel.

Played as a right winger as a kid.

Tend to play as a box to box midfield nowadays. Depends on the situation.

Am shit at breaking up arguments/fights (hotheads tend not to listen). πŸ™‚ Decent at everything else.

Fullback, either side. Sometimes slot in as a central defender and also a backup goalkeeper.

Got average pace and stamina isn't great but it's my reading of the game which gets me through games.

From a thread on here September 2012:

Haven't played much since about 2009 - but have in the past been a long time player of both futsal 5-a-side with mates and in a full field intramural competition at my old tech park.

Haven't played a match since then, sadlyβ€”haven't joined a team due to recurring back problems. Bit the bullet and started a proper recovery programme a couple of months ago, so maybe I'll be able to resume some time next year.

That said, I'm a pretty shit player. Height, decent stamina and bloody-mindedness are all I've got. πŸ™‚

Just off the striker. I've got great vision and can pick a pass from anywhere. Pretty good finisher too. Meh at everything else.

Would you say they don't take you siriusly?

Si.

Have always had a pretty awkward mix of being very good at tackling and heading, and decent at passing and finishing

As a result, never managed to hold a single position; moved from centre mid to centre back for 11 a side, and usually played up front for 5, 6, or 7 a side. But whatever team I've played for, I've always been in the team, rather than on the bench.

Used to have top stamina at school, thought I could play centre mid at a decent level, but then got lazy and bored of all the running that came as a result of training πŸ˜†

I was a decent keeper once. Played in a very good youth team from age 6 through 19, and got into the regional side. Highlight may have been a 4th place in an unofficial national championship at age 14.

Now I'm a lazy fucker pretending to be a combination of Makelele and Pirlo. Got fat too.

When I played in high school my nickname was Gattuso because we look similar and played the same positions (CM, RB). Could run all day long, had a decent cross...my biggest strength was my tackling, both standing and sliding, couldn't knock me off the ball either, would leave opposition on the floor more often than not, and I only ever injured a kid once, but it was a clean tackle.

I'm short, so pretty shit in the air, and never was very quick. Got angry, too. Really angry. Very pointy and shouty. I was at a sports academy so the level of competition was pretty high, although the focus wasn't on football. When I left, I played for a shit team back home and was their number 10 because I was far and away their best player, and physically far above anyone else. I mellowed out there and learned that I'm a terrible finisher. I played briefly in college and now just play pick up games with a bunch of other late 20s out-of-shape smokers.

When I played (retired at 32 due to injuries), I played all along the back 4. Primarily left or right back as I kick as well with either foot.

Played semi-professionally in the South West of England for many years, just missed my chance to go professional due to a very timely (bad timing) ACL injury which sidelined me for a season, trouble is my first game back after that injury I had a bad tackle on me which broke my right ankle, this put me in plaster for 6 months and I never recovered sufficiently to play at a higher standard. This injury also gave me arthritus so pretty curtailed my visions of playing for Arsenal (LOL).

My strengths when playing was that I was a pure defender, I didn't care for scoring etc, I was also very, very fast so was usually the last line of defence. I was also very talkative and was forever making sure everybody knew their job and what was happening around them, this more often than not meant that I played as captain also. Weakness was that I was not the most skillful player on the pitch, no clever flicks and tricks from me, I did my job which was to stop the other team scoring.

On the topic of your playing days, what are your worst injuries?
