My worst football injury is the one that put an end to any ambitions of playing at high level.

I had a season long injury with my ACL, however my first game back I played for a lower standard team to get some fitness and whilst playing the ball out of defence I suddenly felt a searing hot pain in my right ankle, I looked down to see a 16st bloke standing on it, he had missed the ball completely and took my standing leg. This instantly broke my ankle and snapped my tendons and ligaments.

I spent 6 months in plaster, but things were never the same again, I had plates put in to hold my ankle together, but lost a lot of mobility in my ankle and also suffer from arthritis in it.

Broken finger (from being kicked with ball in hands)
Scar on left cheek (from being slid in on studs up)
Bruised sternum (from falling on ball)
Meniscus tear in both knees (two cartilage scrapings)
Sciatica (from back injuries)
Torn ankle ligaments (from landing on a dodgy pitch)

All good fun.

I've broken fingers, ribs a metatarsal and a collarbone. I've also had a knee issue that kept me out for about 4 months, can't remember the type though.

The worst by far in terms of pain, however, was when I ruptured my groin muscle. Only like a severe pull, but somehow incredibly painful. Had to do a lot of physical therapy for that one. It's now 14 years later and I still feel it after each football session.

Has anyone ripped their arse like Mascherano?

Klaus?

Worst one for me was tearing up the outside ligaments on my right ankle (planted foot in a tackle) - nearly a year to recover, still not quite perfect.

Those are some nasty injuries. Worst I have had are torn ankle ligaments. Though I've just returned to playing after a couple of weeks out, got crunched by my own goalkeeper (bloody goalkeepers) and suffered nerve damage in my arm and shoulder. Worst pain I have ever experienced, but fortunately settled down now after some pretty vigorous treatment from an osteo.

Tore my groin badly about a year ago. Pain at the time wasn't particularly bad, although the feeling of it 'going' wasn't pleasant. It was real sore for the following couple of weeks though. Sneezing was agony and I kept rolling in to funny positions during the night which would really irritate it. Was out for about 9 weeks and even when I returned I could still feel it and feared it would go again.. It's only felt completely normal for a few months so it was almost a year long thing. Before that, aside from knocks and kicks during games I'd never had any injuries which kept me from playing.

It's your own fault Daz, when you hear the call "Keepers ball!" you should get the fuck out of the way.

Ah but you're assuming the big dumb unit actually called for the ball...and that I wasn't already in the air when he hit me!

My head fell off once. Just stapled the cunt back on. Scored the winner in the 90th min too.

Was it only a flesh wound?

Well I apologise on behalf of all of us.

Hope it was a header and it hurt like buggery.

I've never really had strains and niggles. Worst was 3 years ago. Piece of disc in my spine broke and was agitating the sciatic nerve causing severe pain in my left leg. GP initially diagnosed it as a calf problem. Physio quickly figured out it was back and after several months of physio, and seeing a sports doctor an MRI finally found the problem. Sounds like much the same injury Andy Murray has been getting over, although as his career depended on it he had surgery. For me it was decided that it wasn't worth surgery and would heal over time but I couldn't play sport for a year. Am 3 games from the end of my 2nd season back and it seems good now.

There wasn't one stand out incident that caused it, think it happened gradually over time. Other than that a couple of other big ones were from collisions. One a major collision with a teammate's knee into my thigh which turned everything from my hip down to almost my knee purple (4 weeks out), and the other an opposition knee into my knee that blew mine up to the size of a football (about 6 weeks out).

Oddly after 15 years playing in goal I've only dislocated a finger for the first time this year.

😆

Spine injuries are the worst. I have a slip disc and never fully recovered from that. It affects so much of your body.

Did the bottom one last night, hurts like a bitch...

Need to get a wax mate.

I did my groin playing "park football". lol!
