We wont sign this guy.
It sounds like pure fabrication to me too. We're not going to spend 30 million euros on this guy given the options that could be available to us this summer. Someone out there is trying to raise his profile through hype rather than letting him raise it himself by performing on the field.
Doesn't jump out as a wengs signing
Lars Bender does though
Speaking of hype, this is pretty much the modus operandi for Portuguese clubs. They're great at convincing the world their players are better than they really are. Porto and Benfica have gotten some first-rate transfer fees out of nothing players like Coentrao, Anderson and Hulk in the past.
There's some truth in that Klaus. They always like to speculate using press to gain interests and will sell for inflated fees, because they only earn a bit part from most of their transfers. It's much more complicated dealing with them because we have to negotiate with 3rd parties as well. Some of the fees they gotten are just amazing. 40m pounds for Mangala, 20m for Markovic after just 1 season etc.

A) Close control
B) Insatiable appetite for fast-paced combination play
C) Learned to tackle from Scholes highlight reels
Disagree. He just don't have the end product consistently to play in the final third. He is best at bringing the ball out from deep and running at players.
Most AM's, whether off the wing or through the center, aren't just standing in the final third all the time, they run into it, which Wilshere is very good at doing. Hope he can nail down that left midfield position...dunno if he can pull off either of the CM spots unless its just cover for Ramsey.
Coentrao is great and Anderson could have been if he went to a different club. Hulk was pure hype but it's not like he ever looked that good.
Tony Leen @tonyleen 2m
Arsenal have mentioned, not formally offered, E30m for Carvalho. Sporting taking negotiating stance of E45m. Willing buyer and seller. (1/2).
Tony Leen @tonyleen 1m
(2/2) Sporting know they've no chance of E45m for Carvalho so my reliable contact says expect gap to close fast between them and Arsenal.
Tony Leen is more reliable than any of the dodgy Khedira sources.
30m? For him?
Sporting play tonight. Is he in the skwad?
€30m, so £24m. A lot but if Wenger likes the player then whatever.

I saw it here
Not convinced Carvalho is what we need or even if he'd really improve us that much. At least not €30 mill worth of improvement.
I know what ya mean. A worry he'd be tom huddlestoney
Got the same body build, just needs the hair

Where has he gone?
Feels very smoke-screeny. Loads of stuff coming out at once just as we're supposedly discussing a deal for Khedira.
Would love Khedira to happen but is anyone credible reporting it?

He's not gone yet but plenty of rumours that City have had a bid in that region accepted.

Too bad City's sorting out their problems in defense.

I reckon he's an over hyped, over priced Wanyama.

Well I'm relieved someone got that. I hadn't a clue what Dules was talking about.
Sorry i've been with family all week-end and am just catching up with OMITT's going ons.
I even missed the last match but i'm not gonna bother watching it after reading the match thread.

Wanyama looks better to me.
He's better than the guys being mentioned here, he's just a big risk at 30m. Think the reason we're weighing it up is because we can get him on low wages in comparison to khedira, and can deputise at cb
probably less injury prone than khedira as well. khedira's history and our history don't seem like a good match.
24m seems a bit steep. the guy is a beast though, and has good passing technique. he's not stocky like huddlestone or wanyama, either.
I haven't seen enough of this guy to really form an opinion. If he's a big a talent as some say, it'll eventually be more than worth 24m. From what I saw in the WC however, don't want.
if the prices quotes for khedira are true, he represents even less value than carvalho imo
Wanyama is a rich mans Song. Carvalho is the real deal.
agree gazza, khedira's total cost is rich.
I didn't realise Khedira have so many injury problems in Madrid. I quick search on his time at Stuttgart shows the same injury prone player. Hmmm
Here's a good write up on Carvalho
http://www.theguardian.com/football/blog/2014/jun/05/world-cup-2014-portugal-william-carvalho
I watched alot of his compilations recently and although it isn't the best representation, he does seem more of a deep lying playmaker than a proper defensive mid you guys think.
he's not a pure dm at all. he can play as well as put his foot in.
Khedira's injury record is a big worry, especially if you're going to commit so much money to a deal.
Carvalho actually makes more sense in terms of estimated investment and value. If he's as good as people say, of course.

I don't know how anyone can seriously justify one regular season in football and that too in the Portuguese league being better than a player who starts (when fit) for the world cup holders and champions league holders.
Khedira's unfortunately gone the Sagna way of poorly handing his contract and let down by the fact he broke his leg in the 2nd last year of his deal. If he'd had a smarter agent he'd have re-negotiated in 2013 and he'd have had 2 big contracts instead of one.

Did you even read what Gaz said?
Not once did he say Carvalho was better than Khedira.
Jed wrote:Wanyama is a rich mans Song. Carvalho is the real deal.
Why do people compare black players only with other black players? It's like you think they're all the same. There's plenty of white players for comparisons.
I've read Carvalho is too much like Song and that he is an overhyped overpriced Wanyama. Failing that he's Huddlestone.
Why not compare him to James Mccarthy or Michael Carrick or Mascherano. I get that they're all more established but they're game might be more similar. And given that it looks like either Carvalho or Khedira why not compare him to the latter?
Not sure on carvalho he reminds me a bit of Eddie Murphy. Especially in his Raw days
