I've been an Arsenal fan for over 40 years, and without doubt Almunia has been the worst goalkeeper that has played for us in that time and that includes Richard Wright.
I detected the first onset of dementia in Wenger when he replaced Lehmann with him.

He was near flawless for a time.

And Lehmann took that decision out of Wenger's hands. When one player makes errors and the other is killing it in training you're not left with much choice.

Well training and playing in a game are two very different things Ludo.
One was the German international goalie the other was some clown from Spain in a pink jacket.

Both were rubbish. Jens was dropped but Manuel got the number one spot for nearly 4 seasons!

Wasn't it his dog that was in the pink jacket...

Almunia was good in 2007-08.

Sticking with him for as long as Wenger did when he started putting in poor performances was infuriating though.

For the record, I never liked Almunia despite his season in 2007-08.

I never got over the CL final and the two goals conceded at the near post. Never liked him before either, still remember that game against United at Highbury which we lost 4-2 but the CL did it.

Yeah his dog and his partner did too, the whole family wore pink.

Dennis Bergkamp's time at Arsenal was overrated.

Thierry bottled it in the CL final.

That 1v1...

Diaby will be like a new signing this season.

So many people on here love Diaby that I feel my stance on him, that he's shits, was always shit and is only still here because he's never fit long enough to confirm his shitness, is more controversial.

Has this thread just become one big Wumfest?
For if tis Wuming ye want.......

Almunia was acceptable for one season, but that's about it.

Arsenal Mania's Player of the Season one year...

In 07-08 IIRC. That was his one acceptable season.

Almunia was never acceptable to me. Same for Denilson. Both will walk into the worst teams of Wenger era easily.

Tony Pullis is a tactically astute manager.

Tony Pullis is a manager

He seemed full of praise for us yesterday. Friedel and Keown did most of the talking but when Pulis spoke about us it seemed genuine, unlike the impression I've had from him at any point in the past.

Sounded like he was trying to dispel the notion that he hates us, to be honest.

I think he mostly put on a show when he was at Stoke. It started out with him advocating for his players and then he carried on because it endeared him to the fans. These things always get blown out of proportion by the press. You put any two Premier League managers in a room and they will have a civil conversation with eachother, even Wenger and Mourinho.
