If we're talking contribution to the team- Giroud had a better season than Ozil.
If we're talking exceeding expectations- Sanogo had a better season than Ozil
The only way Ozil makes it into the top 5 is on price tag.
ozil's quality and presence made the difference in quite a few games. his performances in big games are where he gets marked down for me.

You don't think its a little weird that almost everyone has picked Ozil in their top 5 while youre the only one trying to dispute it?
ramsey followed very closely by the central defensive partnership and then sagna. considering we should be fighting for trophies, nobody else on my list.

Not at all, aside from the fact that it's my opinion which I'm as entitled to as anyone- Once upon a time everyone thought it was a little weird if you wanted to abolish slavery.
Yeah, and Hitler was of the opinion that Jews should be exterminated.
Remind me why we're talking about random examples from history when talking about Ozil though?
Anyway, I see no point to this, Ozil's the only player to have gotten a nickname from you this season which is pretty telling in itself.
Expectation is the main reason i mark Ozil down as i can see he is our most gifted player.
Giroud only gets there to me by default as he was top scorer and did not get injured but for you to say Sanogo is beyond ridiculous, for a Gooner.

I agree with this as we have all seen that his ability on the ball (controlling, protecting and passing of the ball) and intelligence on the pitch (dragging markers out of position to make space for others to exploit) has improved us to unimaginable levels. He has been the main difference between this and last year's teams and Ramsey has had a break out season due to him!

It's funny you mention Hitler, you seem to be the one who is intolerant of someone who has the audacity to think that Ozil didn't have such great season.

Because sometimes the mob are wrong which you apparently have trouble comprehending.

What was the nickname and why was it telling?
Looking at the posts I'm not sure you can say "almost everyone" had him in the top 5 either. What it comes down to for me is that without Ozil I have no doubt we would still have come 4th and won the FA Cup. Without Ramsey I'm not convinced we'd have done either. I can certainly see the same being discussed by Wenger and Gazidis over the summer when it comes to deciding whether it's worth spending big again.

To say we would have made 4th place without Ozil is plainly wrong as he was responsible for many a good result this season.
You must know that tactics revolve around neutralising the opposition's best attacker and this season, every major game has shown them targeting Ozil for this special treatment. They are paid to beat us, and their decisions are not based on favouritism, so the fact that it worked proves they were right.
The main disappointment has been Ozil's failure to overcome this in some of these important games but even an all time great like Messi failed, in this respect, this season. A by-product of this, though, is the freedom other players get to exploit this as Iniesta and Pedro used to, when Messi was Messi. This is what Ramsey has done as he would have been target number one, if Ozil wasn't in the team.

BTW I don't want to turn this into an Ozil thread there will be plenty of time and other places for that.
I myself am undecided on him, we all hope and assume that he will improve.
All I'm saying is that he wasn't in our best 5 players this season.
It's all relative. Expectations are higher for Ozil so he needs to do more to get on these lists.
