Can he be a potential Sturridge like signing.

I don't think he's anywhere near as talented as Sturridge.

Of course he's not. Sturridge is miles better.

Sturridge strikes the ball better with the laces, that's all he's got over Welbeck IMO.

That and movement, pace, ability to run with the ball and most importantly the hunger to score goals.

Welbeck is too flaky. He's another Defoe.

Welbeck has got all of that + a much better team player IMO.

Evidently as his stellar league scoring record suggests

Sturridge had a great record before joining Liverpool didn't he?

I'm not saying he will as good as him but if you watch him play and when he hasn't been asked to fill in on the wings and plays up top he has scored goals and looks a decent player. His problem is he is versatile and has RvP & Rooney ahead of him in the pecking order. Fergie used him instead of Rooney last season against R.Madrid and he put in an excellent performance. He has 9 league goals this season despite only starting 13 games this season, I think he has played for a total of 1286 minutes this season which is just over 14 games. He ain't as bad as people are making it out here.

I'd rather not spunk 20m on a project player. The only I want is the one that actually performs that is Lukaku who's much younger, scores against the best teams and has a 1 in 2 record for Everton and WBA. Welbeck might or might not be prolific. He's an erratic finisher. Lukaku's already scoring aplenty. For a similar price tag Lukaku's a much much better bet.

Wellbeck doesn't have the mentality and arrogance that makes Sturridge so lethal.

He is a good player, but he isn't for us.

He'd be a marginal upgrade over Giroud at best, and I think (like the Remy/Benteke threads) that we get excited about players simply because they're more "mobile" and as a result may make more use of Ozil

Sturridge is a so so finisher and Welbeck is worse. Absolute houseboat link.

I'd agree with that, exactly why I don't want Lukaku. Not saying we should sign Welbeck but he certainly isn't as bad as people here think. We haven't got time for projects, need someone close or the finished article.

welbeck is a good player, and definitely better than giroud, but we need to aim higher.

I think Welbeck is a better player than Sturridge. I'd love him here instead of Giroud as second choice next season.

On the basis of what exactly. We need a player who can put the ball in the back of the net. For me Sturridge is much better at that than Welbeck.

To be fair Welbeck's goals per start ratio is probably similar to Sturridge this season. Stick by what I said initially though, Welbeck is too flaky and we've had too many of those recently.

Sturridge has always had a better goal scoring record. His spell at Bolton he was excellent and his season and a half at Liverpool have been great too. Only when he was left to rot at Chelsea did he not look quality.

Wellbeck is quite clearly a level or two below him.

If we can't get a top striker then someone like Welbeck is probably the next best thing. I rate him a lot. Reckon he could have a similar progression to Sturridge tbh if he were to have the same faith placed in him. He ticks a lot of boxes...very rounded forward.

No disrespect to Welbeck but he's just not the ready goalscorer we need to step up. I believe at best he'd put up numbers similar to Giroud at Arsenal.

He's a far better footballer than he is a striker and with our surplus of number tens we certainly don't need him, but there are worse signings we're linked with.

We already have a Giroud.
