Benzema would be a good but underwhelming signing. Amazing that people can get more excited about Morata/Drmic than Benzema.....highlights the odd nature of the transfer market.

Who gets more excited about those 2 than Benz?

As we found out last year, none of us, at this stage, know exactly what the wording of his new contract is and if he, indeed, has a release clause then I admit demand is too strong a word. However as Benzema would subsequently become surplus to their requirements, I am simply suggesting it is within the bounds of possibility that pool would, at the very least, ask for him.

I suppose it depends on what Rodgers wants. I can imagine Suarez costing Bale money even with a clause. Rodgers May have specific targets set that don't include Benzema.

Given what happened last time I'd bet my house that they have worded it so there can be no misunderstanding this time around.

I agree with that, Klaus.
@ qs!, Top strikers are rarely available and when they are, teams like the Chelskis of this world, get involved and this type of exchange deal would avoid that problem.

Chelsea have never paid as much for a player as we paid for Ozil.

True and we would still have lost out if we both wanted him at the same time as the wages they offer would blow us away.

Would be senseless to sell him now when he's playing so well. I also don't buy the idea that Suarez would flee Liverpool right now when he's on the verge of being a Kop legend. I'd love Benzeam, so hate this link because it sounds so incredible.

If Liverpool win the title Suarez will become a legend there and realistically I don't think they will get much better next year. If the other teams strengthen they might not go on a run like this again so he'd be leaving on a high. He's just turned 27 so R.Madrid might not be interested at £70m+ in a years time

Also I don't think the buyout clause is £100m like being reported, why would he sign a contract with such a high clause? I do however believe that the clause is only active for foreign clubs.

If we were firm enough and took them to court, we would have gotten him. They were firm and gamble on us being pussies.

Suarez would have been forced to take them to court and he would probably have lost an entire season in the process. Can't see anyone kick up so much fuss over a clause that wasn't entirely clear to begin with.

Also with the clause not being at all enforceable his chances wouldn't have been great at court. However if Suarez had threatened that I think Liverpool would have sold but he wasn't willing to do that. He would have if it had been Real Madrid though IMO

Torres.

Oh yeah 😆

Still they're no longer in a different league to us regarding transfers. Or at least they shouldn't be.

our striker recruitment really has been appalling in recent times. who was last decent striker we bought - rvp? adebayor?

Vp was the last one Adebayor is average at best.

Not sold on Benzema. He looks about 2 stone overweight and has failed to perform for long periods with France. he is back on form with Madrid, but I just wonder about him being the sort to shine away from there in a much tougher league.

Contrast that with Atletico Madrid: Torres, Aguero, Forlan, Falcao, now Costa.

And they'll probably find a good striker to replace Costa next season

I can see liverpoo demanding Benzema if madrid ask for suarez.

When does that ever really happen? Plus Suarez is reported to have a proper buyout for foriegn clubs now.

It is going to happen this summer when Costa switches clubs with Torres.
