Y Va, I know what you mean. I've never been totally convinced by Benzema. He always seems a bit 'lacking' for a purportedly top class CF.

But see, he's just a level below elite. Truly top strikers are hard to get. the very best of them will be going to the Chelsea's, City's, Madrid's and PSG's - the true moneybags of the modern game. Fact is, despite our "wealth", in an all out bidding war, we can't offer as much to the best players out there.

Look at their entire body of work in the game: I'd take a Benzema over a Giroud anytime.

Would be senseless to sell him now when he's playing so well. I also don't buy the idea that Suarez would flee Liverpool right now when he's on the verge of being a Kop legend. I'd love Benzeam, so hate this link because it sounds so incredible.

don't see madrid selling unlsess they get kun or suarez. benzema has put in some class performances lately, he links play very well.

my issue is he can be surprisingly wasteful, and always seems a few misses away from a crisis in confidence.

Benzema isn't the best fit for our current setup but let's be honest he'd be a great signing. Who else can we really ask for? Costa's 90% on his way to Chelsea. Maybe Cavani becomes available but that seems a long shot (not to mention he'd be £30m+ more expensive and on higher wages). Balotelli's a top talent and a better tactical fit but a far bigger headcase. If you have a better name let me know but I'm not seeing one.

Benzema would really help us soak up a press with his ability to receive the ball and turn under pressure. He had a great connection with Ozil at Madrid. He's still a very good goalscorer even if he doesn't have that Ronaldo/Suarez hunger and fluffs some easy chances. He seems the type who would benefit from playing under Wenger rather than under the bright Madrid lights. Wenger would be relying on Wilshere and/or Chamberlain to be ready to score from the wings next season, but that just doesn't seem like a huge stretch to me. Buying a striker with one year left on his contract leaves us money for more signings as well.

Which might explain why Real Madrid wouldn't sell him to us and might be willing to let Benzema go?

We should find out in the next few months because I don't know Real Madrid will let him see out his contract. They are already talking up a move for Suarez, Aguero or Falcao. Unlike the past they won't flog off their players cheap, want to recoup as much as they can. Wouldn't be surprised to see Di Maria leave either.

Benzema makes very little sense for Liverpool's style of play.

Just spoke to a Madrid fan who doesn't anticipate Benzema's renewal there, which surprises me. He sees a move for Suarez in the summer. I think they could spend money better than on the £45m + £100k/week difference between Benzema and Suarez, but Madrid is Madrid.

Pure speculation, don't think there is a release clause. Even if there is, it should only be to foreign clubs. Liverpool ain't stupid.

They already have Jese too, who is already playing very well before he got injured.

I really wouldn't mind if we got Morata and Drmic, 2 potentially top strikers to complement Giroud, IF we sign a world class wide player.

It's not speculatlive, it was mentioned several times when he extended his contract. It might still not be true, but it's not like I made it up out of thin air. And Real is a foreign club, so what does that matter in this context?

When does that ever really happen? Plus Suarez is reported to have a proper buyout for foriegn clubs now.
