You are obviously looking through your rose tinted Irish glasses here, so I promise I won't take you seriously.

It's ok Rex you'd have to regularly watch English football to realise how good Coleman is. I know you antipodean sorts have a hard enough time just catching the arsenal games.

We may be loaded, but spunking north of £20m on a fucking RB must be one of the most idiotic courses of action we could possibly take this summer. I rate Coleman and he is obviously a good player, but he is terribly overpriced. If we were to spend that sort of money on a fullback then it better be on Luke Shaw who looks destined for world class-dom.

We turning this into a willy measuring contest now, Qs? 🙂

If you mean have I stooped to your level then the answer is yes, yes I have.

Didn't in any way mean to offend you there, Qs. I should have realized you lot would be very sensitive when it comes to the few decent players you manage to churn out from your little island. My apologies, with sugar on top - but Sagna shits on Coleman, from a great height at that, when it comes to defending. He is better 1 v 1, he is a better tackler, he is a beast in the air, and he is better positionally on the defensive end. On top of that he is a better crosser too. All IMO of course, and I have given the reasons why I think so. However, that does in no way mean that I don't respect that you, or anyone else, may see things differently.

coleman isn't top level, and i'm not sure he will ever be. and sagna is superior to him in both directions. imo.

What about all the non Irish on here who also rate Coleman?
What's their issue?

Coleman is much, much better going forward. I like Sagna, but hell, even Eboue was better going forward than Sagna.

Something more idiotic would be spunking 30m on a position where we don't need a player and giving him 100k a week (Which is what United are offering)

Coleman was the best full back in the league this season. And by some distance.

Coleman is a top quality RB and I would welcome him here with open arms but splashing 20-25m on him (probably around 30-40 % of our overall transfer budget this Summer) doesn't make much sense IMO when we can get a young promising RB who has been the best in his position in Ligue 1 for less than half of that amount.

As much as id love Coleman, I have to admit that Aurier represents better value.

The ACN is very annoying though.

We won't sign Coleman. There are very few fullbacks worth paying huge money for, as good a player as Coleman is, he's no Ashley Cole, Roberto Carlos, Maicon, Lahm, Cafu etc. On top of that he's 26 this year so will have little re-sale value. It doesn't make sense to pay £25m for him.

Oh I agree there.

We're apparently sitting on a load of dosh so if they ask for £25m I say why not? Luke Shaw will be going for a similar amount and he hasn't had a better season than Coleman.

Forgot to mention about this, Luke Shaw is 18 so he's got about 15 top class years in him, the same can't be said for Coleman who is 25. Like Man Utd did for Rooney it is worth overpaying when they are that young and playing at a high level.

Shaw is a better player than Coleman. You pay that type of money for unquestioned top class. Very good players like Coleman can be found for better prices.

But in a summer where we need a forward, right back, backup goal keeper and a central midfielder before we consider a left back, is it worth using 30% or so of our budget this season on Shaw?

You buy players like Shaw if you already have a great squad and have just won things, not if there are so many holes in the squad that need fixing.

I'm not saying we should buy either, I'm saying in some situations it might be ok to overpay for a talent as you get plenty of return.

Our next RB should not cost any more than £10m IMO, even that is upper limit
