Draxler isn't really a 'project'. He's got 10 caps for Germany and nearly 100 games in the Bundesliga.

The project will be getting him to score goals consistently

We saw what that did to Ozil, whose game went to pot, after Wenger said he should become selfish and score more when that isn't and will never become his strength.

Özil suffered more playing with the donkey rather than from anything Wenger said I reckon.

Correct. Except Wenger probably also said "YOU! PLAY WITH ZAT DONKEY!"

Giroud getting played through by Ozil.

Bet the horse wouldn't be trying that out if it knew it was the hamburger factory if it fucked up a leg...

That poor horsie is up there with the Star Wars Kid as one of the most unfortunate characters on the Internet. It didn't ask for all this attention. It must really fucking hate Andy Carroll.

The Draxler as striker talk always makes me laugh though. It was started by John Cross for fucks sake and since then everybody started going on and on about it like they themselves had scouted Draxler for 3 years and knew every attribute he had to succeed or not succeed as a striker.

He has played as LW/CAM for Schalke, has crazy good dribbling stats and technique. He would certainly come as LW for us, Wenger would add some scoring ability to his game aswell.

we were talking about Draxler as an Arsenal striker long before John Cross's speculation. if you watch the boy, you can see that he could do a job up front. he likes beating players and has good finishes. i think closer to goal, within 2-3 years he can be a 20 goal scorer. he's not the answer if we want results immediately

He does look like a young RVP, and we bought him as a wide player. I will concede though that RVP was a striker playing wide, whereas Draxler looks more like a midfielder despite playing the same position.

Draxler doesn't look anything like a young van Persie. He looks like a playmaker playing on the wing, which he is. No striker's movement anywhere near him. I think he should be able to turn into a Reus-like with a bit of moulding, but the best way to get the most out of his talent would be to simply develop him as a central playmaker. Not going to happen at Arsenal though.

Well, I think there are plenty of similarities with a young RVP. The important distinction for me is that he is more a midfielder than a striker. With his age I don't think it is impossible to turn him into a striker, but it is a huge gamble on a player who will cost north of £30m.

He's already better than reus.

Tall, quick, technical. If he fills out like Bale and Ronaldo did at around 22/23 then we'd have a monster player on our hands.

Well worth the money imo, Draxler would be a really exciting signing.

He's not very quick.

Draxler, as Klaus points out, isn't all that quick.

He's undeniably a world class talent though. Excites me as few other prospects out there. But the things he's good at aren't necessarily the things we need at the moment. I think there's a significant risk he'll end up looking like another Cazorla on the left wing, at least for the first couple of seasons... Wasted playmaking potential. That is what he has looked like at times at Schalke too.
