Who is better, Draxler now or Reyes when we signed him 10 years ago?

Fuck can't believe it has been 10 years since we signed Reyes!

I still think we will sell one of our first teamers if this happens, and I think Podolski is the most likely to go. I disagree with it vehemently though since I think he is a terrific player and seems a brilliant character.

Depends who else we sell. Can't see Wenger voluntarily selling an experienced player like Podolski if Sagna and Verms are both off too, for example. He doesn't like that much upheaval.

Good point. Wenger usually doesn't stand in the way of fringe players wanting out and, frankly, that is what Podolski seems to be at the moment.

This is a really poor situation! Next summer should all have been about getting the striker we need, but it could very well be that we need a RB, a CB, a winger AND a striker. :gah:

Personally don't think trays how it'll go down. Striker and a right back imo. Think we'll keep Verms and Podolski, but Sagna will go.

If Sagna goes, we would also need a new CB as he is also our current 4th choice in that position.

4th choice centre back won't be a problem, just some kid that the scouts have their eye on or summat. Will need a 2nd/3rd choice keeper too.

Striker and a right back who are first team ready. Then a squaddie young centre back and keeper.

draxler just doesn't seem to be a signing that makes a whole lot of sense for us.

i wonder why we dont loan a GK in (like viviano) but then loan fabianski out. the consensus seems to be that fabianski has more pure talent than chesney but he's not as strong mentally - so why not send him out to get tested and see if he sinks or swims? if he makes a breakthrough, then he could challenge for the shirt.

Reckon Fabianski will ask to leave in the summer anyway. He's good enough to be #1 for a lot of good teams. He's no worse than Mingolet, for example.

Jesus, I didn't realise that Fabianski is almost 29. He's turning into Suart Taylor.

We took Viviano in with an option to buy, no? I'm assuming Fabianski will leave, but maybe we'll just sign the Italian for good?

The only way Draxler makes any sense to me is as the lone forward, maybe he can be moulded into a great number 9 - I'd trust Wenger on that at least, but I'd still rather get Remy somehow or something.

Normally for a goalie he'd be just entering his prime, but in Fanny's case he's still inexperienced naive and a bit shit.
He's a decent shot stopper as indeed Almunia was but that is only a minor part of a goalkeepers duties.
Fanianski is a has been who never was.

Reyes.

The guy tore Madrid apart in one of the best solo performances of that time in La Liga a week before we signed him

We're not signing Viviano on permanent - there's lots of talk about terminating his loan instead.

Fabianski will probably go on free this summer, cant see him being intrested in extending.

Draxler makes a lot of sense - he will play as LW, he is an exceptional dribbler and shooter. If he will be converted into a striker then that's something for the future when Wenger has had enough time to work on him.

If we manage to keep Sagna i wouldn't be against Miquel as 4th CB. He's not very good but fuck it we've lasted most of this season without a 4th centre back so Miquel as an emergency option wouldn't be too bad imo.

Would be a shame to spend the summer replacing the likes of Fabianski, Sagna, Vermaelen etc. Hopefully only Fabianski leaves so we only need a keeper and can concentrate on adding a striker and a midfielder (Draxler probably)

From the little I know of Draxler he seems mentally a determined and strong guy, turned down big offers to stay at his club and looks like someone who wants to be involved. Reyes was a lot more fragile unfortunately.

Remember Sid Lowe stating his suprise over our signing of Reyes immediately after the transfer was announced. He was know for being shy and dependant on his parents and fragile mentally. But his huge talent and ability was worth the risk.

For all this talk of Draxler vs Reyes, I'm surprised there's been no mention of how good Reyes was for that short period.

People seem to favor Draxler despite no proof (yet) that he'll adapt better.

Pires:

Draxler is a good player, young and with a lot of potential. Whenever I see him play, I always think his style of play would be a perfect fit for Arsenal. I can well imagine Draxler being used on the left, but also as number 9, he could really strengthen the team.
