Regarding Lemela: 15 goals and 5 assists is hardly a project, apart from his age he has delivered serious quality and been integral to Roma. When you say project I think of OX or someone similar the project with this guy is to become a top 10 player as he is already doing more than enough to make our first XI.
Angel Di Maria
15 goals and 5 assists is nothing. Podolski had more last season. Lamela is more of the same at this point. Sick of potential, let him rot at spurs.
Obviously if it were him or no one I'd pick him, but we need an upgrade not a sidegrade.
with the pool of available talent quickly shrinking, id gladly take lamela at this point, even if he is a bit young.

Guy barely ever loses the ball goes past players with ease or is fouled, 17% shot conversion rate, lays on alot of chances for other players he puts in a tackle or two as well.
Watch a vs. video for him and you'll see he is ready to play top football and go further.
Problem is that if we weren't willing to pay £22 mil for jovetic we aren't going to pay more for Lamela.
Coombs need to watch more football

Would he walk into a top side? If he was as good as you're saying I am intrigued as to why no other top or cash rich club was interested.
No other top club needed him
He's not as good as y'all seem to think. Just a good player who may or may not make it at the top level.
Agree. He's not in the Willian bracket. He's more like a James Milner at villa level
Let's keep telling ourselves that all these players bought at other clubs aren't that good.

He's a good bit overrated on here by the sound of it but the bloke is class on his day. Bags of potential.
Ljajic is the real miss here. He's on a fast track to Europe's elite bracket. Signing him would have killed Tomas Rosicky, mind.
Yes ljajic is one we definitely should have gone for. Brilliant player
I like Ljajic but I still think we can and should do better (and I'm just pretending Wenger doesn't exist). Di Maria hits the mark for me.
Lamela will probably develop into a 50m+ player in the next 3-5 years.
He's the player I didn't want Spurs to sign.
yep he's not ready made, but he will be a massive asset long term. rvp level potential. let's hope he buggers off from spurs after 3-4 years.
Even when he bugger off, it will be for big money and then spurs will sign v able replacements
Lamela is better at 21 than Bale was lets put it that way, no 100%s but that is true of every transfer at least you know he can do a job now is potentially going to go on to be world class.
Some calling him out as being not that good need to look at what he has done in reality and look at how expensive players go for now as he is right up there with someone like marco reus etc and has been fantastic for Roma, all be it in a very attacking team that plays on the counter.
But that's it, he was good for one team as a bright young prospect. Marco Reus has proven himself far beyond Lamela's level. That may change this year and it'll be a great signing for Spurs and we'd have missed out etc, etc, etc. but you could say that about every talented player that moves anywhere. Dunno how you can say Lamela is equivalent to Reus.
Lamela is at the around same level Reus was when he moved to Dortmund from Gladbach. He kicked on and I have little doubt that Lamela will to.
Then the question needs to be asked why spend that money on Lamela now when Reus is available for 35mill Euros next summer?
