Because Reus might not want to move to us, but Lamela probably would have?
Because we need players now?

You really think we have a chance of signing Reus next summer ? Wont all the other big clubs be after him ?
Exactly, Spurs know that they can't get the Gotze's and Thiago's of this world so instead put their resources towards the likes of Willian and Lamela. Yes, Willian fell through but they are willing to pay a premium. We can't refuse to pay x amount because Bayern/Barca paid x amount for someone better. We're never going to get those guys anyway.
Reus has talked of his admiration for us and unless we activate his clause next summer we won't know the answer to that question.
As for this summer it still looks Di Maria will become available, I'd rather spend that kind of money on someone proven at the highest level against the top sides than someone who might come good. I don't know anything about Lamela and am not knocking him but from reading opinions of those people who do know about him he comes across as a very good prospect. He might become the next C.Ronaldo for all I know but we need someone who is quality now. If we had enough quality in that position then I'd say we should be all over him. Is he better than Theo, Podolski or Cazorla out wide?
Difference is they have identified their targets and got them , and if Plan A ( Willian ) didnt work they have moved swiftly to Plan B/C ( Lamela and maybe Eriksen ). We on the other hand seem to be dithering as usual while Wenger gambles away on the fitness of our players.

Reus may admire us but if we sit around for another season scrabling for 4th with a strengthened spurs and seemingly improving liverpool then we are playing roulette when we don't need to. Why not Sign Lamela now and see if we can also get Reus next summer as its not like we are strapped for cash or are going to be in 12 months.
On top of that we will have another contract fiasco with Theo in may when he is 24 months out and I'd rather be in a postion to say to him "looks whose over your shoulder mate" than to be begging like we have before. I also believe that in the same position at arsenal Lamela would be as strong as theo in terms of output but contribute more to play as he already make twice the number of passes walcott manages.
Add in that the guy can play in 3 positions if not 4 as a striker while we have an ageing, injury prone rosicky holding the fort then we need to be singing player on the attacking front and yet we are relying on Di Maria to be sold off and for him to CHOOSE us over PSG, united or whoever else is in the running.
All these gambles have to pay off and if we miss one then the whole stack is blown and we will be fucked up going into the rest of the season with say Gnabry and Miyachi getting 30+ appearances between them.

Exactly what Wenger's thoughts will be. Then next summer can say "why spend that money on Reus now when xxx will be available next summer?"
If Reus develops into a super player, a whole host of big clubs will join us in competing for his signature.
'next summer' the bane of any arsenal fan's existence for about a decade.
The problem we have is that these elite players are finding Arsenal less & less attractive each year
Every points chasm of the title winner and each year that goes without a trophy makes it harder, wenger was the right man in the right place at the right time and got all that top french talent toward the end of the 90s and early 2000s. Now he looks lost in the market with no special info like he used to seem to have.
Even the players we are linked to now are standard.
On Di Maria I still don't like his % for goal scoring, he is a real hit and hope guy when I've seen him.
According to the imbecile Jamie Sanderson
Turkish outfit Galatasaray are hoping to beat Arsenal to the signing of Angel Di Maria after opening talks with Real Madrid over a transfer.
Di Maria has reportedly been told he can leave Madrid once they confirm the signing of Gareth Bale from Tottenham, with the duo occupying the same position.
Arsenal have been strongly linked with a £25million move for the winger in recent weeks, but Galatasaray are now leading the race after approaching Madrid on Wednesday.
It’s thought they are ready to go to £28million to land Di Maria, and he would be handed around £160,000-a-week to make the switch to Turkey.
Arsenal are yet to show their hand in the race, but face a real challenge now to sign Di Maria, with Galatasaray pushing to get the deal wrapped up quickly.

Guys a nobody living off someone he may have known in the youth setup a while ago.
His sources are Jay Emmanuel-Thomas and wikipedia.
why the fuck is the bale transfer not done yet? tottenham are scum in everything they do really. Things should get a move on on these real madrid players once the bale move is done i'm hoping.
di maria is the only one who has a slight chance of coming. forget about all the other silly rumours.
We're more likely to end up with Kaka, then Di Maria, Ozil or Benzema. Spurs are probably just trying to make it difficult for anyone else including (or more particularly) us to strengthen with surplus to requirement Real Madrid players. Bale deal will probably be confirmed sometime tomorrow and with Wenger having to focus on the Spurs game on Sunday, he won't have a lot of time to dither over details if he wants to secure any of them particularly if their players are not overly keen to leave RM.

Yeah, if I was in charge of Spurs I'd definitely get the Bale deal done nice early so it could benefit Arsenal.
Well in the end Real can corner Spurs because Spurs has already spent alot of the Bale money on their additions so i dont think it is in their intrest for Real to pull the plug on the deal. And at the same time if Arsenal have serious intrest in their players it is in Reals intrest to accept the bids and let Arsenal get on with it on personal terms so everything would be settled by the deadline.
So in that sense i dont see much difference. In the end every club will still act according to what is in their best intrest and the only issue will be if Arsenal is serious about any of it.
