Suarez is a world class, 20 goal a season striker, chucks in a fair number of assists and match winning moments of magic too. Even conservatively speaking, that's enough to add 10 points to our tally. It's ridiculous to suggest a world class upgrade on Giroud wouldn't make a difference.

You'd also find that it's impact on our reputation would be minimal, our reputation would more likely be enhanced by our first mega signing and competitiveness. Though if it makes fans of other club hate us, great, we've not been hated for about 8 years.

Can you factor in how many points his suspensions would cost.
Also how many times we would play with 10 men due to his simulation, spitting, biting, etc.
Also subtract the negative effect on the other players such as Theo, Podolski, Giroud and Cazorla not to mention the black players in our team!
How many less goals will these guys score and will Suarez's 20+ goals compensate?
These are just the starters for you to ponder.
Main course to come.

I have no sympathy for Liverpool and they did themselves no good in how they defended Suarez but it's quite disgusting that given everything Suarez might make it ugly and force his way out of the club, the way he is going about things now reportedly.

I actually think he is a good footballer, i can't stand him though and don't want a character like him at this club.

20 goals 😆
Is that all you expect from a 40M+ striker?

Olly could get that next season.

I think he meant in the league alone.

OTF and GM, I really don't expect us to win a title under Wenger and although the window isn't shut yet he isn't going about things in a way to suggest otherwise. What I said was "mount a challenge", let's not forget purchasing the goals we lost with RVP only brings us back to where we were 2011/2012. 70m million properly spend on 2 or 3 players can move us closer to the title which would be progress in the right direction. No one is suggesting buying the Gervinhos of this world. I an sure there is enough for a quality striker and 2 20m+ rated players.

Spending all the money and time on Suarez without improving other areas is just going to bring us back to the reason why all the decent players we had left.

This is spot on for me. Suarez is vile but there's no deny that he'll move us to the next level while providing the groundwork for other big names.

No, our overall squad is better than it's been in a long while. What this team desperately lacks is a van Persie and Fabregas. Also, that 2011/2012 lost a lot of time at the start of the season because of various reasons. I don't think straightforward comparisons apply. Of course we're not going to win the title. Even signing Ronaldo and appointing Mourinho won't guarantee that, but at least we'll have a better team.

And signing that one quality striker takes more effort (and luck) than signing a couple of 20m players.

We didn't have Cazorla and Podolski in 2011/12 lagos, so buying Suarez constitutes building in that regard.
Most people on here believed that if we'd kept Van Persie last summer in addition to buying Cazorla, Podolski and Giroud that we'd have threatened more than we did.
Buying Suarez is therefore certainly not just bringing us back to 2011 2012.

Suarez is coming off the back of the best season of his career. There are no guarantees he can push on from there. The season before that he was pretty ordinary (apart from being the controversy of the season).

we won't move on to any level with Suarez alone, he'll just consolidate top 4 and feign off any threats from Spurs, that's all!!!!

Exactly. If one of the 3 ahead of us has a bad year we might get 3rd.

hmmm I suppose you have a point....still we need more than Suarez for a title push, like GM said we need to replace the goals of RVP and the authority of Fabregas in midfield as a minimum.

I agree with that, but the fact that we need more than "just Suarez" is not a reason to not sign him surely?

Bloody hell, I know the guys an arsewipe but you make it sound like we're signing a cross between Ian Brady and Nick Griffin 😆 I'd be willing to bet most of the players won't give a damn.

Contrary to what you seem to believe, he doesn't get sent off every other game. Like I said earlier, he consistantly played over 30 league games a season, that's on par with most players from Rooney to Dzeko.

Anyway, no need for the main course, the only way to settle this would be to see his impact if he actually arrives.

I don't think anyone disputes that. He would give us a spark and a bit of magic we don't have. I don't think anyone is convinced by the form at the tail end of last season, and Suarez alone isn't going to improve on that. But getting him is possibly the statement of intent the club needs to be more attractive to better players than the likes of Giroud and Gervinho.

@Yva

oh I'm not saying don't sign him

what I'm saying is you've got 70M in the bank, let suarez not be our only peice of top level signing

sorry couldn't help myself!

Yes we need more than Suarez but for two years in a row we have finished strongly after losing important players from the first team. For the first time there is no speculation about a key player leaving. We will start on the back of a finish that saw us get 26 of 30 points. Then there is natural progression of the team as a unit that understands each other and progression of individuals who it will be fair to say are very talented and young. We will just naturally be better. I don't think we will challenge just with Suarez but we might if we get lucky with injuries. To push us over the line we need more certainly.

Well if anyone could find a way it's our dear Luis!
