Spurs are apparently now close to signing Soldado. With him Paulinho and Chadli even the purchase of Suarez won't change much.

Bloody hell, I know the guys an arsewipe but you make it sound like we're signing a cross between Ian Brady and Nick Griffin 😆 I'd be willing to bet most of the players won't give a damn.

Contrary to what you seem to believe, he doesn't get sent off every other game. Like I said earlier, he consistantly played over 30 league games a season, that's on par with most players from Rooney to Dzeko.

Anyway, no need for the main course, the only way to settle this would be to see his impact if he actually arrives.

Well I think they currently do have a better squad NOW. They were a point behind us and have signed a starter for Brazil and Chadli. If we add Suarez as our sole signing and they add Soldado to what they have they will challenge us for 4th.

I don't think anyone disputes that. He would give us a spark and a bit of magic we don't have. I don't think anyone is convinced by the form at the tail end of last season, and Suarez alone isn't going to improve on that. But getting him is possibly the statement of intent the club needs to be more attractive to better players than the likes of Giroud and Gervinho.

Also, the games last season were incredibly dull. Any improvement in the way we attack will be welcomed.

We've bought no one of note yet.

We won't be able to hang on by a thread every season. Spurs have been so close the last two seasons straight. We're not that much ahead of them.

Invest well and we can increase the gap a little. Spend unwisely and it'll be just like the last two seasons or worse.

Their lack of a goal scoring striker was their biggest weakness last season and if they get Soldado they would have addressed that problem.

Not necessarily immediately though.
Coming from non PL clubs will mean they'll have that infamous integration / adaptation period to get through.
Yes those signings strengthen them but why exactly is there an assumption that Suarez / £70m investment in our squad either won't happen or won't strengthen us more?

If it's unwisely spent.

Liverpool spent 35 million quid in investment on Carroll. Chelsea spent 55m on Torres. You can't just spend it on anything.

Looking at chel$ki, $heikh city, p$g and moneyco, there is no doubt investment strengthens the squad.
Obviously it can be a two way sword as there are lots of intangibles which come into play and that's one of my issues with the Suarez affair.
We all have differing opinions of his value to the team and that's why this deal seems to have divided the fans.
Some believe we would become contenders at a stroke but i don't.
I think the team as a whole is not championship material and no one player can address that problem let alone a guy who makes you flush your proud tradition down the toilet in one go.

Another point to note is that signing Suarez will break the hearts of those deluded scousers. Can you imagine the uproar RAWK would have, they for now still can't believe we can afford him or that their beloved club would ever sell to us even at 55m. Signing him would completely bring our status well and past beyond them if it isn't obvious enough now that we are so much above their level. And from our part it will feel very good to be able to rob our rivals of their best player, something like what United did to us last year.
