Yes we need more than Suarez but for two years in a row we have finished strongly after losing important players from the first team. For the first time there is no speculation about a key player leaving. We will start on the back of a finish that saw us get 26 of 30 points. Then there is natural progression of the team as a unit that understands each other and progression of individuals who it will be fair to say are very talented and young. We will just naturally be better. I don't think we will challenge just with Suarez but we might if we get lucky with injuries. To push us over the line we need more certainly.
I don't share your optimism about this team.
There's a reason why there was always speculation, it's because we had great players, there's also a reason why there is no speculation, it's because we have no great players left!
And like I've said before, it's not so much that we finished strongly after losing key players, but that that quality of players were not needed if our aim was just to finish fourth. The consequence of this is that most of the players we have are 4th spot players or sub players in a title winning side most need to make way for title winners instead of forcing them to write cheques their talents can't cash. But then it depends on what you mean by "better" .....4th spot comfortably?
it's not a great thing that there isn't speculation, it tells us that our players are crap!!! The only hope of ever owning an EPL medal for better than half of our 1st 11 is if someone better comes in and forces them to the bench.
I am tired of "happy together" losers!! Instead of celebrating their togetherness I want it broken and proven players brought in, players whose presence will actually improve the "young and talented" so they don't end up like Bendtner, Denilson and all the other "young and talented and difficult to offload". When was the last time any of our "young and talented" went for big money...in itself an indictment of their development.
I welcome the speculation, because it means we have something others want, we aren't going to beat our competitors if they don't want anything we have. Players did not leave because of the speculation, they left because of the lack of ambition.
