rodgers is sounding increasingly like a scorned lover. the guilt trip tactic always fails at this level

Yeah. By making his argument on sentiment he steps away from the money and contractual battles, almost conceding.

Rodgers will be on a countdown to a sacking if Liverpool don't manage to threaten the top four this season. If I were him I'd be pretty worried about going into the new season with a wantaway Luis Suarez, because the guy would be more a spoke in the wheel than a cog in the wheel.

Of course that's the player we're trying to sign. :\

Liverpool will sell now, I'm fairly sure. They'll just try to squeeze out the maximum fee. If Madrid or some other, unexpected suitor are not going to get into the race, there's very little incentive for us to bid up until the end of August, given Suarez's suspension. If Madrid are going to enter the race, we may be fucked already.

name these other available players who i'd improve us as much as suarez would.

Players don't necessarily have to be on E-Bay- You'd be surprised whose legs 40M opens, players like Michu and Dzeko wouldn't even cost that.

City want rid of Dzeko. None of the ones I know rate him even remotely, they've cast him in the same useless boat as Kolarov and Garcia.

Liverpool are linked to Soldado this morning. Would be funny if they sign him ahead of Spurs.

But they wouldn't improve us as much as Suarez would anyway. So an example of a player who actually could would be nice.

Theres heaps of players around who would improve us immensely, IF and thats a massive IF we really intend actually spending for the first time ages- We're like a cashed up sailor who's been at sea for a year and we run into the nearest brothel we see and offer the Madame all our hard earned for the first buck toothed ugly little skank we lay eyes on because we're scared we'll miss out because our mates are close behind.

Maybe I've got it wrong, apparently Jose "urges" Wenger to sign Suarez.

Mourinho said: "I have no idea of the situation and no idea of the contractual situation of Luis Suarez.

He also added-

"I have no idea how it will go."

Continued the two time Champions league winner but I urge him to go for it. 😆

Well if Jose thinks it's great maybe I should have a rethink.......

I would much prefer him to Suarez.

That's a great post, actually, sums up my feelings about it.

Hypocrisy is the new pragmatism? On the contrary - the truly pragmatic can't be hypocritical, since they're openly devoid of principle.

Compulsion doesn't wait on compunction.
Necessity is the mother of moral compromise.
The end justifies the means.

etc.

Adapting to the reality of supporting a top level football club these days will always require compromise in relation to what people find acceptable - be that being landed with an owner, sponsor, manager or player of objectionable behaviour, history or background.
All football fans are hypocrites.

I like Dzeko and I'd like him here but IMO Wenger probably thinks he's similar to Giroud. Ideally we'd get rid of Giroud and get in Suarez AND Dzeko but that's not going to happen.

I'd be honest here. We should give this Suarez thing a week and if it doesn't work out just pay up 25 million for Bobby Soldado. I know people have concerns over his age but he'd turn 32 AFTER his 4th season here if he'd come.

If we wait it out we'll get him, depending on how much he wants to come. It's probably more important for Liverpool to sort this quickly.

Don't talk to me about pragmatism Niccolo, remember I was the one screaming for sane sensible signings who could play in the english game when Wenger was bringing in all these nutty fuckers like Hleb and Denilson and fat pricks like Santos.

While it is true that just as the Sex Pistols said all those years ago- No one is innocent.
We all have our lines in the sand, you need to know where you stand ofr you'll get blown wherever the wind takes you.
Wenger crossed mine a long time ago........I've decided I just can't accept this.

michu would be around 20 mill and dzeko closer to 30 mill. neither of them are even close to suarez' quality.

...and when did you become the spokesperson for cheaper bargains?

But you continue to watch every game and still support the team - that's acceptance.
That's the essence of my point really.
Supporting our team makes hypocrites of us all to some degree.

I can't stand Suarez but I accept that he may end up leading our attack next season.
I have reservations about us investing so much in him - it's a risk - but I cannot reconcile righteous indignation at his being here with supporting the team, and willing them to win with goals he may score.

soldado isn't much better than giroud. spending 20-30 mill on dzeko, soldado or michu is a waste of money, relatively speaking as they don't offer us much we don't already have. it's a miniscule improvement for a large amount of money. suarez is a large improvement for a large amount of money.

spending money effectively is about maximizing your returns, not just the size of the investment itself.
