10 game ban.
It's going to be late September before he can play.

I can't for the life of me understand why any club would want to be associated with Suarez. He bit his way out of Holland, he is trying to do the same with Liverpool now.

If I try to disregard my own deep resentment of Suarez, I still can't see how we would ever be interested. Doubling our transfer record on a player who isn't available from the start of the season? Who also managed to miss a large portion of the previous season? Who is hounded by the press already because of his on field antics? Not in a million years can I see our conservative board go for him.

He's a maniac but he scored 23 PL goals last season - that's enough to get clubs interested in signing him and taking on the baggage that comes with him.
The baggage may also mean he's cheaper than other strikers of his calibre.

In fairness, I don't think he's going to get a lengthy ban every season. In the last 6 seasons he's played over 30 league games every year, with the exception of 1 where he played 26. The number of games he plays isn't really a problem.

To be fair, Wenger is not the sort to give two hoots about a few games being missed at the beginning of a 4/5 year contract. He thinks more long term than any other manager out there, for better and for worse. The reason for Suarez's ban(s) is why Wenger would have reservations about buying him rather than the ban itself.

And personally, I don't think we're really interested. Suarez showed everything he has shown at Liverpool whilst he was at Ajax, and Wenger is a good enough judge of talent to know whether he could replicate that here or not. He was a good age then, too, 24 or so. We'd have moved then if Wenger really rated him.

What odds are the bookies giving for Suarez to break his 10 game ban record next season?

Bear in mind he cost £23m back then, which probably would have put us off from making an offer. He wouldn't be the first. Besides, I reckon Suarez is at a level where you can't really not rate him.

But even still, I'd give very little hope to Rooney coming here but even that is infinitely more likely than this happening.

Been a while since we had a player who misses at least a quarter of a season due to behavioural problems.

But Van Persie used to miss more than that due to the persistent behavioral problem of snapping his leg.

Our masterplan 🙂
Maybe we're just waiting to sell Bendtner before we sign another striker.
Hmmm. Maybe not.
Not sure we're close to what's really going on with the current rumours.

If Real's interest in Suarez were genuine, it would slightly shorten the odds on the bluff theory.

I suppose our huge cash reserves allow us to create a more plausible illusion of possible transfer activity than other less fortunate clubs. Unfortunately, our years of frugality cut both ways - our penny-pinching reputation probably kills four fifths of the sting of any rumour about us.

That's why every fucking summer we come out and bang the gong about how much cash we have to spend.

Suárez's stance on wishing to leave England, not simply Liverpool, also appeared to have softened in the wake of the bid from Arsenal and the absence of an official move, so far, from Real Madrid. "I have to value that – despite everything that's happened, [English] clubs still value players for what they can do on the field," he said. "That makes me think that I can come back and do well over there. It's good that the English clubs still want me."

the meaning could be lost in translation, but it doesn't sound like moving to another english club right now is on his agenda.

not that i want the cnut here anyway.

There was a rumour we used to practice playing with 10 men back in those days 😆

I'm fairly sure Wenger confirmed that.

God damn we were great back then.

Speak no more of glorious memories
Of distant past, in face of present paucity

"that way madness lies; let me shun that;
No more of that"

I find it incredibly hard to come around the idea that Wenger is serious about Suarez.

Suarez for £35M is miles better than Higgy for £30M. Get Suarez and Thiago in now. Gustavo next window when Rosicky and Diaby leave and Arteta is becoming back up.
