Kompany might be more talented than either of them (although after what Carragher said about Terry I'm not too sure), but for the specific demands of English football I'd take Vidic and Terry. I also think Terry and Vidic are brilliant orgnisers, leaders and communicators, which is worth it's weight in gold at the back.

Terry is a great organiser, the best I know of in the game right now, by a country mile, Vidic isn't fit to lace his boots in that sense.

Carragher and Terry are big mates, always have been, I wouldn't say him calling Terry "one of the best I've ever seen" means much at all to be honest, but that's just me. And even then he's not really talking about the kind of all-round ability that I was talking about Kompany and Djourou having - Carragher probably thinks of himself as one of the best around, and you wouldn't really describe what he has as real talent.

At Arsenal I think we need the Djourou/Kompany type over Vidic/Terry, in the League in general, where deep defences rule, Vidic/Terry's limitations aren't tested as often.

Cant see us agreeing on this one.

I'm not even sure I think Kompany is the 'best of the rest', really. I've seen quite a few City games where they've been up against it, or struggling, and he seems quite happy to let the game pass him by just doing what he has to do.

I'd go with Vidic, a healthy Ferdinand and then Kompany.
My favorites in England in recent years were Campbell and Carvalho.
Terry is just the Stevie Gerrard of defense: an all-action Guy the English media has built up

Just watching Cardiff-QPR on BBC one - what a game!

12 minutes in and it's 1-1, two gals of unbelievable quality from Bothroyd and then Taraabt.

Hopefully JET gets on. Couple of Arsenal old boys playing too, Matt Connolly who was tipped to be a good CB iirc is playing for QPR.

Yeah, he was fairly highly rated at one point.

QPR will get relegated unless they invest heavily. Some awful players.

Agreed. Taraabt wont be able to keep this up in the Premiership either.

Didn't get a kick. Cardiff ran out of puff in the last 15 minutes. Shame he's not getting much of a chance to influence things.

Watching the goals now - today probably wasn't the best day to say this. 😆 Two amazing goals (as well as Bothroyd's). Still think he'll struggle a lot in the Premiership when the defenders figure him out, one of the most selfish players I've ever seen.

He won't get time like that in the Premier League. He's very talented, but next season, when players are bigger, quicker, stronger, and more talented than he is, we'll see if his confidence holds, if he can have anything like the same impact. I bet he can't. He'll score some great goals, but won't get anywhere near the same number of goals.

Karl Henry on Wolves v Stoke tonight

Karl Henry has risked inflaming the Premier League match between Stoke City and Wolverhampton Wanderers on Tuesday night by predicting "a really dirty game" where "both teams will be kicking lumps out of each other".

"It's going to be a really dirty game up there," Henry said. "Both teams will be kicking lumps out of each other. It's going to be an ugly, dirty game that no one wants to go and watch."

In comments that will surprise some, Henry suggested that he failed to make enough tackles to keep Pulis happy. "I wasn't his type of player when he came, that was it for me," the 28-year-old said. "Maybe back then I didn't put my foot in as much. I just came through at the wrong time and sometimes you just need to move on and find yourself. Perhaps I could do a job for him now – older, wiser and perhaps I'd now know what he wants. Things didn't work out there but no grudges, he was always a top man with me."

Should be a cracker. 😆

Karl Henry thinks he wasn't dirty enough for Pulis 😆

Chances are QPR won't get promoted anyway.

Why not? They're nailed on for promotion aren't they? What's happened? Is that a joke? I dont understand.

Calm down timmy!

Looks like they might be deducted points for buying an ineligible player. I've heard they might end up in the playoffs because of it although BBC said last week that they might get away with a fine.

It involves 3rd party ownership, they bought a guy after the new laws were brought in (following the Tevez West Ham thing). Apparently they are more at fault than West Ham were so in theory should be hit with a harder penalty.

The irony of it all is the man managing QPR now is the guy who was most vociferous about punishing West Ham for their crime
