He plays for England, and he plays for Man United, so nothing will happen. If Rooney was mid-table mediocrity, he'd get a three match ban. Same if he was foreign.

The FA corrupt, simple as.

Are you taking the piss? This would be a non story if it was anyone but Wayne Rooney!

Like it was for Drogba?

Drogba was having a go at the referee. Rooney was celebrating a goal.

Yep. Drogba's "fucking disgrace" punishment was fairly consistent with the stringent across the board punishment for dissent during and after matches.

Yeah, but there's FA rules dictating that players should act in a respectful manner.

Drogba's comments got him a six match ban, and I think his comments sans the television(I.E., if he said it to a referee) would have got him a far less severe punishment.

You know your behaviour has been out of line when Berlusconi criticises you for it...

I have an issue with Rooney (Ferdinand, Terry and all) mouthing off to the referee constantly without any retribution, never mind Fletcher shoving Webb earlier at Old Trafford. However, I think banning him for that celebration would be a little lame. Drogba not only swore on tv but he also questioned the integrity of the referee directly to the camera - the latter is what led to the extended ban. And yes, players do swear during a game, I do too when I play and I don't see much wrong with that.

FYI Rooney has been banned for two games.

I have to say I agree GM.
Rooney is an imbecile and his sin this time is merely behaving like one.
All the countless times he actually challenged and undermined the refs authority and all he got was a hug.
The FA really don't have a clue do they.......

Like the others said, Drogba's case was very different. This ban is shocking, and I hate Wayne Rooney. Hopefully they miss him badly.

Spain have been invited to the Copa America in July. Wonderful.

Oh joy. Cesc better not go.

Why would Spain want to take part? It will do their chances of winning the Euros next summer no good at all, on the other hand, I suppose it's a one off opportunity to win a trophy they've never won before.

If Cesc goes next season will be a write-off for him. Again.

Not going are they? I thought Costa Rica were.

It'd mean 4 summer tournaments in a row for Spain so hopefully they'll agree that it's a ridiculous notion. They don't seem to have ruled it out yet, though.

I bet they go. Champions of two continents at the same time, and the World Cup stashed away just to confirm it.

Why were Japan playing at Copa America anyway? Everything about this is stupid.

Apparently the organisers of the Copa America always invite one ineligible team to take part. I'd never heard of it before, but it goes backs years and years.

normally they invite teams from CONCACAF to participate.. in 99, Japan was asked, but that was the only time a country from outside the Americas has been asked (until this year)

Ricky, it actually doesnt go back THAT many years, only from '93 forward

Heh heh for some people thats the dawn of history
US.......
