Most of the action movies I watch aren't exactly produced with 1080p and Dolby Surround in mind, apart from the fact that they aren't being picked up by any cinema over here anyway. They're often packaged in insultingly poor dvd releases too where the main clue to whether you own an original release or a pirated version is the place from which you buy it. Personally I use HK Flix for most of the stuff I can't torrent from Asiandvdclub.org.

Western films are different, I guess. I enjoy going if I know it's a good movie. I find it easier to focus entirely on the movie in a cinema, especially if it's a long one. The Town was the last one I watched. Comedies are usually good value for the money too if you're going with a couple of friends. I'd never pay to see Transformers though, or Avatar for that matter. They say that piracy is hurting the movie business but that kind of crap has done more damage than any torrenttracker will be able to match until kingdom come.

Going out for a meal before the cinema or vice versa is lovely for me. Hardly ever do it like that but off the top of my head I loved watching Casino Royale at the cinema.

Even if it's not action I just like seeing a good movie at the pictures. I'm pissed I haven't seen The Social Network for example.

I must see a few movies in the next couple of months.

One thing I hate is watching shows from week to week. I have to watch as many episodes I want, when I want. 24 is a bitch when you have to wait for the next ep in a week.

we stopped watching TV shows that way.. (well, some of them).. for Dexter, i DL'ed the season after each one ran, then saved them up and watched the whole season at once.. i cant stand waiting from week to week.. and cant stand commercials

i never go to the theater for movies anymore.. sure, some thing might be better at the theater, but with my plasma, my good speakers and the ability to be on my COUCH and ability to SMOKE while watching a movie trumps going to the theater.. if im not comfortable, i dont enjoy it as much.. i think the last movie we saw at the theater was Bourne Ultimatum..

plus, i can always DL movies practically when they come out in the theater anyway, so i dont see them THAT much later than when they come out

I mostly download films. The closest cinema to me requires a drive, which means someone can't have a drink and you have to put up with idiots too. No thanks, sitting at home with a few beers and film sounds much more fun to me.

this..

Klaus, have you seen 'Let the Bullets Fly' and if you have, what did you think of it?

Am I the only one here who still goes to the cinema???

At least once a week at the moment. Going to see American: the Bill Hicks Story tonight in a double header with some standup comedy.

Captain: I haven't seen it yet but I've been meaning to. I can't seem to find any release with english subs though. Have you seen it?

No, in the same boat as you regarding the subtitles. The film apparently uses both Mandarin and Cantonese (you may have noticed the movie has 'chinese' subtitles on all of the downloads available) so maybe that is causing the difficulty in finding an English translation.

Klaus do you watch things subbed in English or can you get it in Swedish?

You can get them for most dvd releases but I don't think I've watched anything with Swedish subtitles on since I was a toddler. I don't watch with subtitles at all unless the spoken language is something else than English.

Captain: Yeah, I've seen it. I think the Mandarin version (or "the mainland version") is the one that's been released first. From my experience the HK version almost always ships with English subs.

Saw The Green Hornet today, not great, but Seth Rogen is funny as ever. Holy hell is Cameron Diaz starting to look old!

38 years old.

When she was in the mask she was like 19 or something.

I thought There's Something About Mary was where she looked her best.

No way Ricks. Watch The Mask again - her opening scene, holy crap...

Lol! That's the scene I was thinking of yesterday.

As a 9/10 y/o kid watching that was just.....WOW!

Off topic but I used to like Hilary from Fresh Prince of Bel Air.

Haven't watched The Mask in years, and was only 8 or so when it first came out, so I'll give it another look

Ricky:

With Diaz it has never been about her looks per se, it's more about her personality and how it shines through on screen.

She told me to tell you lads that she's not all that impressed by your looks either. 😛
