He's good, but not good enough to justify those wages imo.
Rayman, do you really believe that about Man U? One of the biggest clubs in the world?
With Moyes in charge, yes.
Means Mourinho wont get him which is good news.
honestly, he's only going to start getting worse from this point. the gap between his actual future value and his perceived present value will never be greater.
or maybe i'm thinking too much like wenger, and selling him now would be suicidal for a struggling team
Five years on those wages is pretty nuts. Three tops.
An extra 100k/w is probably only an extra 7.5m/year on the overheads for United. With the market being what it is, and the cost to replace like for like so high, it's not quite insane.
Guess the other factor is Rooney possibly going to Chelsea.

Getting rid of one of RVP/Rooney may not be such a bad thing for United. Switch to 4231/433 with Welbeck/Hernandez as back up. Focus on spending the wages on top quality central midfielders, a position in which they're sorely lacking (despite spending 30m on a CM in August).
If they dont make CL, it would be very hard to keep him. Now they ensure they get maximum value if they sell.
this is not about selling, Fox. it's about securing a striker. how have you replaced van Persie since selling him? it's not like you haven't tried? reaching out to Suarez, Draxler etc. strikers are hard to find. Rooney has a longer term future than van Persie, and he is one of the dozen or so best strikers in Europe. smart to keep him. the price suggests that there was a credible threat of him leaving
Would be funny if Rooney saw off a large chunk of that contract on the bench/in the stands.
would be sad actually. he's a top talent who has achieved so much (just look at his career numbers), yet it still feels like there's a lot more he could have done. maybe we're too critical
I disagree. It wouldn't be sad at all.
i like to see individual talents do well. this is not necessarily in conflict with the desire that their teams fail. i want United playing against Skenderbeu Korce next season on Thursday nights regardless of how well Rooney does
If Rooney plays for Arsenal I want him to do well. If Rooney plays for Man U I want him to do as poorly as possible.
I want Rooney to fail whether he's at United, Stoke, Real, PSG, Chelsea, England, Sky commentary team, his family life, anywhere really.
QS, what's the source of this angst?
Rap music.
😆
