He is a great runner and can pick out a pass but thats it. As an attacking midfielder he is nowhere near good enough to be starting for a top 4 side.

His function is to press and win the ball high up the pitch rather than get close to VanPersie and compose the attack. That's just how it is, not how I want it to be. The reason is that we have several players who aren't physically cut out for the roles they are given.

At a proper team, Ramsey would play in Song's position.

Ramsey can't even play box-to-box let alone defensive midfielder. I'd query whether he can even do in Carrick's vision of the role.

Doesn't matter - he's PLAYING in the attacking midfield position for us. If Wenger played Szczesny there, Szczesny would be PLAYING as an attacking midfielder despite the fact that he's more of a goalkeeper naturally.

Thats is not his function at all, his function is to assist and score goals. Pressing isnt a function, every player on the pitch has to press even van persie

Capi, I think I get what you mean, you're kinda saying that Heskey isn't played as a forward right as his role isn't to score goals but rather press the defenders and hold up the ball while occasionally being opportunistic and attempting to score right?

He just isn't capable of being an attacking midfielder. When he's on the ball 25 yards from goal things should happen.

The real top attacking mids create and press strongly

However, none of them do though which is what I think Capi is imply when he says Ramsey picks up the slack for a few others.

I don't care how much he runs around - any football player playing in the position that Aaron Ramsey plays in - at any level - should have the ultimate aim of creating and/or scoring goals. He presses a lot but that's not enough. We may as well just sign a marathon runner if his sole purpose is to run around chasing opposition defenders.

So his excuse for his poor first touch and low stats is that he is too busy pressing the ball for his team mates, bullshit. He can press but that doesnt lead to his first touch being terrible and his lack of creating chances and finishing chances. Its a joke that ramsey is first choice for arsenal right now in his position. And then people wonder why we are in this mess.

Trust me, if you took Ramsey out and played Ozil (who I rate as the best playmaker in world football) in this team, it would be asking for big problems that would soon become apparent. I'll leave it there because this conversation is going nowhere fast

@dula: Ramsey is not a top class attacking midfielder; I didn't say that he was.

@sabre: You could say that, basically relative position doesn't dictate role in modern football. Of course players are still expected to do certain things, like score when one on one with the keeper even though you are playing as a winger rather than through the middle like you want to be.

We might as well just start Ozyakup in that position, and see how he does with the way Ramsey is playing.
