Jack on the wings?? No way...he will be used in a 3 man midfield, but not in the :Cesc: position. A more flatter 3 man midfield, but Jack taking primarily the attacking role in my opinion.

IMO the most important thing with getting Wilshere back is that it gives the manager real options with players he trusts. He doesn´t HAVE TO play the only 3 CMs he currently trusts, and he doesn´t HAVE TO play both Gervinho and Walcott irrespective of whether they are on form or not.

Just looked it up. Vermaelen has made 17 starts and two sub appearances this season. Only five starts less than Mertesacker and six less than Arteta. I think the reason it's been less noticeable is because he's been playing on the flank half of the time.

Thanks, Klaus. It should be a few more starts given that Arteta started late and missed the last game. The point remains that it would be foolhardy to think of Wilshere as our savior for the last 4 months. I'm looking forward to seeing him come. He will give our midfield a real boost and potentially help forge a better link between midfield and attack; but I'm also wary of seeing him as the guy who will lift us from the mire.

Exactly Rex, i think Wenger does that too often. And primarily the reason why the rest of the players dont get until the player from first 11 is injured. He doesnt mix it up at all, surprise the opposition.

Sorry mate but Wenger plays Diaby in the first team when he is fully fit, It is something that he always does.

I think that Wenger would have played Song , Diaby and Jack from the start of the season if they were all fit.

Wenger has certainly played Diaby before when fit, but that was prior to the emergence of both Wilshere and Ramsey and certainly before we bought Arteta.

I think Diaby is one of the players with the most raw talent in our squad, but it matters little when he is never able to stay fit and develop his game properly.

It doesn't matter what he might have said at some press conference. Wenger hasn't started with Diaby regularly for two seasons. He lost his place to Wilshere last season and Ramsey, who only had been back in action for a few weeks, was preferred over him when Cesc got injured.

Rex, last year Wenger prefered a midfield of Song and Diaby at WHL and left Wilshere on the bench.

It would be nice to have them all back to see what he does hey 😉

Last year Diaby was available for 20 games, he started 17+3 sub

The year before he was available for 40 games, he started 35+5 subs

Diaby was starting regularly when available for the past two seasons .

He's been getting starts because other players have been injured. It's not the same thing. He's not ahead of Song, Wilshere, Ramsey or Arteta in any pecking order. Probably not ahead of Coquelin either for the defensive and central midfield positions anymore. I think this will become obvious after a while when (if?) he's back again.

My last post on Diaby .

My view is he will be back , and he will be eased back into the team, like he always is.
If he gets a good run of games he will be starting regularly and he has his place booked for the
Euros .

Nope, Diaby aint getting on the team sheet except to rest Arteta or Ramsey, or maybe Song.

I wouldnt be surprised if Diaby is sold this summer.

why do people always bring up what wilshere did as a junior? he probably would've looked world class if you'd stuck him up front or as a fullback at youth level. doesn't automatically mean he can cut it there as a senior. anyway, i'm done going over it. massive hypothetical that will likely never happen.

Because he's played his entire life as an advanced attacking midfielder, apart from one season in the first team?

wilshere isn't enough of a scoring threat up top for me. i know he can put away a chance, but he's not a shooter/finisher type, he's a creator and facilitator. i'd rather have him play in midfield proper, not out wide or in some riquelme/fabregas role.

That's only because of his relative youth compounded by the fact that he was the deeper midfielder. Fabregas was the same when he first broke through and today he's one of the best goal scoring midfielders out there. Gerrard and Lampard were hardly goalscorers at a similar age.

Wilshere was consistently the most productive player in the reserves and he also played on the wings the two seasons prior to his breakthrough. He's capable of being great in the attacking third because he's got all the technique, vision and composure you need.

I don't think he's going to be on the wings though, simply because he's someone you want controlling the game and getting on the ball as much as he can.

no, it's because he lacks power and pace. same for fabregas. if we're going to have a CAM, i want it to be someone like prime kaka or rooney, someone with the ability to carry the ball, punish any openings left by defenders, play his teammates in, and curl or power shots into goal like a striker.

for me, fabregas and wilshere should both be CMs only. late runs into the box are fine, but that's very different from giving someone a free role and minimal defensive duties.

Wilshere's more than capable of doing all that, particularly since he's the best in the team at operating in a tight area after van Persie.

Although I have no idea why Kaka and Rooney are the templates to follow. As for lacking power and pace, what about the likes of Zidane and Bergkamp? And to a lesser extent, Lampard. :confused:
