Arsène Wenger insists that Arsenal have not completed the signing of Germany international Lukas Podolski.

It has been reported that the Cologne striker has passed a medical with the Club and is set to seal a move to Emirates Stadium.

But Wenger denies this is the case, and refuses to put a timescale on any potential deal for the forward.

“Nothing is done. No, he has not had a medical,” he said.

“I don't master the timing [of any announcement] because that does not just rely on us. It could happen soon, it could happen later, I don't know.

“It is always a concern [that someone else could come in for him]. The speed in which you do things is important, but at the end of the day it is always the player who makes the decision.

“It is about how much they want to join you.”

From that, it seems we definitely want him and are doing everything we can, but maybe Podolski is holding out for a better club. I'm not sure he'll find one but given his performance this season and if he performs well for Germany (already having a solid international record) maybe a Chelsea or Man City will look to sign him up with a big money contract. He's a big name who is available.

But it does look - as it has for some time now - that Arsenal is his likely destination.

I don't know for what idiotic reason are people comparing it this to the mata deal considering there was no report of him having a medical or close to signing. We had a bid and that was rejected. The quotes are on this very thread a few pages back.

Seems to me that we are still haggling over the transfer fee. I am genuinely worried that we are only prepared to pay in the region of £10m and Köln value the player at £15m+. Can see another big club coming in with a bid Köln find acceptable. He would be an excellent signing for a whole host of clubs.

We want him, he wants to come, Köln are willing to sell - but they want a reasonable fee.

Because nobody wants him for £15m and Cologne will take that offer everyday and twice on sundays. It's down to the player, though to be fair, I think it's done and dusted.

Wenger said it was down to the player - strikes me that the Lazio story may not be so improbable, AND he's waiting for the CL. Agree with captain.

This lazio thing seems implausible to me. Even if we DON'T qualify and they DO qualify we still will be a much more attractive club simply by the fact that we have a consistent record of just not being in the competition but being in the knockout stages year in year out. Lazio on the other hand i struggle to remember when they were in the CL. They are third now but only 1 ahead of the next two teams and 3 ahead of the 6th. They have to get 3rd to make the CL as the 4th spot has been lost to bundesliga.
