How can anyone know what was going on in his mind? Do you know?
Were there neurological health issues, i.e., a brain tumor?
He was NOT a well man.
Rather there be talk about people in difficult situations getting help, or how to recognize symptoms.

Has anyone read the book by Ronald Reng about Enke?

mentally ill? I'm sorry that's a cop out, it's selfish because you know perfectly well the impact it will have on others and you choose to ignore it.

Agreed. The argument that serial killers are mentally ill doesn't justify that either. It's natural instinct to know what's right and what's wrong.

No, that simply is not true.

It is a selfish/self interested act. He went through with it anyway.

That's why it's so sad.

Bet he wouldnt have done it were his kids standing I front of him at the time

Geez, the reasoning around here is unbelievable.

It's fairly unbelievable in cases of severe depression too. Logical thinking doesn't come into it.

He wouldn't have done it if the postman was standing in front of him either.

It's not unreasonable to view it as a cowardly act, hence why so many see it that way

So many see it that way because they don't have the first clue about depression hence comments like:

"it's selfish because you know perfectly well the impact it will have on others and you choose to ignore it"

But there we go, time to move on.

I think it is unreasonable to call it a cowardly act Dula.
You see it as reasonable, fair enough.
I see why people do, it's a common view, harsh to my mind but widespread nonetheless.
Zero to add to that really.

In other news, Huddersfield just lost their unbeaten record. 43 games.

I understand depression but I also Understand the hurt it would bring to loved ones. He put himself ahead of his kids. Not cool.

My aunt got up out of her livingroom armchair, walked out on her balcony on the 7th floor and jumped. Unlike most of you I have been there. My feelings after the initial shock are nothing but anger and contempt for her.

You have problems? Deal with them.

Some harsh views in here. The bloke was mentally ill.

Indeed, Nobody has the right to judge anyone unless we've been in their shoes because none of us know a persons situation, thought process and what makes them go through with it.
We all know that chemicals and hormones in our bodies control our minds, it is really sad that a person takes such an irrevocable step just because they lack the relevant medical advice and a few poxy pills.

In a lot of cases ones problems have very little to do with it.

Frankly, given Speed valued his life so little that he ended it, he probably thought he was doing his family a favour.

Is it a willy-waving contest?

I know three people who have killed themselves. One suffered from severe depression and no, it wasn't selfish of him because:

A common sympton of depression is that you feel those being left behind are better off without you. That's the nature of the illness.

I'm not saying what is right and wrong; these are just the recorded effects/symptoms of MDD. By all means, react to a suicide as you see fit, that's your choice but in my opinion, the things being said here are harsh and out of touch with the reality of the situation.

Plenty of people have probably seriously contemplated suicide with the thought of the impact it would have on friends and family the thing that stopped them

Then they were not at the end of the line.
If you still have that ability to reason you can probably survive.
If it's gone, people don't.

Some people with severe depression contemplate and imagine suicide every minute of every day, for months on end.
Imagine living like that?
If they don't get help they won't.

I´ve said what I have to say on this topic.
