Indeed something just doesn't feel right us winning 2-0 and going out and them getting thrashed 4-1 but going through. Doesn't seem fair for one team to get 120 minutes to score an away goal while the other only gets 90.

Agree that away goals should not count after 90 minutes. Seems horribly unfair. Although you could make the case that home side have 30 extra minutes at home, a bit of a difficult situation. Scraping away goals all together might be the best way to go.

Sort of negates the advantage of playing home in the 2nd leg, which you should have since you finished first of your group.
The away goals rule does add excitement though, but I think it should stop applying in ET. Or just go straight to penalty shoot-outs after 180 min.

chance of winning is higher if a team is playing away in the first leg and having
the second leg at home.

I like the away goals rule. It's the ridiculous idea of extra time that we need to get rid of. A football game is 90 minutes, not 120.

What do you suggest instead? Straight to penalties? A replay?

I have nothing against extra-time.

For me, penalties don't reflect the overall quality of a football team and I'd rather let teams try and settle the score the way it should be done. If it takes an extra 30 minutes to do it, that's fine by me.

The away-goals rule should not go into extra-time though.
