No need for a replay. The tie has two legs already. Penalties after the final whistle if away goals can't separate the teams. Extra time used to have a function when the golden goal rule still applied. Only thing it does nowaday is to grant an unfair advantage to the away team.

I think away goals have an important function when you're forced to play against opponents who have a big advantage on their home turf. The cold and snow in Russia for instance, or the extreme circumstances in Istanbul and Athens.

However.........There is evidence to show that the vast majority of 2-legged ties are decided in the 1st leg, our recent outings would tend to agree with this.

As regards rule changes- Fuck off! everything is perfect as it is, the away goal is there to encourage teams to open up away from home, extra time and penalties are the fairest acceptable way of settling things not stupid bizarre ideas like golden goals or corner or possession count.

Scrapping it would also mean better first legs. If a team feels a tricky away trip is coming, they may go all out to pound them at their place

The logical rational thing to do is go all out to pound them at home and park the bus at their place, this is the time honoured method of succeeding in European competition- except there is the away goal rule which encourages you to be more adventurous away as there are rich rewards for every goal scored.
Is that so difficult to understand?

BTW any team that does not have a "park the bus" ability in their repertoire cannot ever hope to succeed in Europe, and there we come to the crux of the matter- The season Wenger played a defensive counter-attacking 4-5-Henry was the only one we very nearly won it!
