Bottom line - there will always be clubs willing to take a punt on a guy like Gibbs who undoubtedly has talent. He wouldn´t put any major dent on anyones wage bill either.

I agree with most of that Klaus. I just don´t trust Santos´s tackling technique at all, and I want my FBs to be good defenders first.

The midfield will cover when the fullback gets dispossessed. It's easier to accomodate when you practically play with three central mids like we do. I like fullbacks who can defend too, but Santos has impressed me in that aspect of his game. And we constantly modify the shape of the team anyway. When we attack down the left hand side we're practically switching to a three-man defensive line most of the time where either a midfielder or the right-back takes a few steps back and the left-back pushes up in midfield. The left fullback has always had more attacking responsibilities at Arsenal. Don't think Santos is overdoing it so far.

You won't find another fullback who adds as much going forward as Santos unless you pay big dollar

L'equipe has been linking us to Aly Cissokho from Lyon over the last few days (http://www.lequipe.fr/Football/breves2012/20120110_080446_arsenal-avance-sur-cissokho.html). I'd rather Bastos, but they say this would be a permanent transfer (_10M Euros) and not a loan.
