He's still the business. Team is a disaster.
Van Persie - too early?
Telegraph reckons he's ready to start talks: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/teams/arsenal/9094585/Arsenals-star-player-Robin-van-Persie-is-ready-to-start-talks-about-staying-with-the-club.html
Just sell Arshavin and give Rob his 80k per week plus the proceeds from the sale.
Perse owes us but we also owe him a comparable wage to other top players.
I don´t think more money will be enough to keep him.
It's not a bribe, it's what he deserves for the last 12 months exploits. Him not jumping ship is what we deserve for waiting x amount of years for him to stay injury free and deliver.
That's how I see it too.
Robin signing a new deal in the next month would be a significant lift for the club, by the way. We could use some good news at the moment. I'm sure it'll affect the players positively as well.
I don´t think even doubling his wages and a significant sign on bonus will be enough though. If he signs for us now, that´s it then for him. In reality that means he retires here. I don´t think he is prepared to do that unless he feels he will at least have a reasonable chance at winning something.
As it is - this season we are the furthest away from winning something since RVP came here if you get what I mean. At no point during this season can I say that I even remotely thought we were in with a chance of winning something. Something more must happen I feel for RVP to sign on that dotted line regardless of what money we offer him.
Unless we miss out on Champions League and Wenger gets the sack (or walks) Robin will sign a new deal. It's been my personal belief all along. For Robin I think the prospect of ending up a club legend at the club he loves outweighs most other options. Even if he'll win just one or two trophies between now and when his career is finished. The main concern is the wages and always has been. We need to increase the wage cap a lot if we want to keep him.
Him finally getting injury free and delivering unfortunately coincides with him having to play in the weakest attacking line-up that Wenger has ever assembled.
I see where you're coming from in that the club has shown patience in waiting for him to stay fit and play a whole season. Loyalty should maybe dictate that he stays at least another couple of seasons, but if what we're witnessing on the pitch is some kind of reflection of what's going on behind the scenes then he must be completely and utterly frustrated by now.
I think trophies are more important for a player like Robin than you think then. We will see soon enough I guess.
"just one or two trophies between now and when his career is finished" What has he won in his years here so far?
Rex, Robin knows all that, and if this story is correct is still prepared to open negotiations. He's not doing it for giggles.
Nasri also opened talks. Hell, he talked for a whole year!
Also, I put very little validity in that article.

The FA Cup.
Yep, in his first season when he was merely a fringe player.
He's a completely different character to Nasri so I would not compare the two situations.

What's your point? Nasri would have signed if we'd given him what he wanted. He was negotiating and interested in staying, but it all broke down.
If RVP had the mind set you attribute to him there wouldn't be any meetings or any negotiating because there would be no chance of him staying.

Still took, and scored, one of the penalties in the shoot-out.

You asked, I answered.
If I remember correctly, before signing his current contract, RVP spoke of him needing assurances from the club about its ambitions. When evaluating - he can´t be anything but disappointed at how things have turned out. We as fans think the club lacks ambition. Why would players feel differently?
As I said, I don´t think money alone will do it. Opening talks could also be a way for him to try and get a feel for where the management will take the club from here.
