Radford and St Annes were supposed to be the dodgy areas - you hear of a lot of gun crime in the latter in particular.

Lenton was bad for burglaries, and you'd get the odd mugging too, but that's the same with most 'student' areas.

There's organised crime in Nottingham too, which surprised me a little when I found out about it.

Raleigh park is massive so more chance of cunts. What hall are you in?

Basic rule of thumb is that being at uni is better than being at school - doesn't really matter where you go, you'll probably have a brilliant time, because it's better than what you're used to.

I thought Nottingham had a great mix of a nice campus and good town nearby, one of the reasons why I went there. Compared to unis like Loughborough, Bath and Warwick, I'm pretty happy with my choice, but I'm sure places like Manc, Bristol and Liverpool are great too.

Bristol, Manchester and Leeds are brilliant places to go to University but like asa says, you'll probably have a good time if you studied at Exeter or Southampton because of the freedom and choice available to you.

If I could do it again, I would go to Manchester or Cardiff.

London is pretty decent too. Pretty decent for football, and club scene.

From what I gather from my mates that have studied in London, a cheapo night can be had....

But the cost of renting must be high. Back in 2006/07 i'm sure my mates were paying 90 quid a week in Archway to rent a house. Surely now it's gotta be 100 quid plus.

I pay about 470 a month for a room in a uni residence. Room is small, but clean. Very central though, can walk most places of interest (not Emirates, sadly)

Rent in london is basically twice what is it most other places. Was looking at those Unite halls recently and it's astronomical.

I paid more or less the same amount in Norway, though the standard was quite a bit higher. But hey, I might only have one chance of living in London. Had to take it.

That would have been a financially astute decision, I admit. Did you not pay tuition either then? Or at least you paid the domestic fee?

If I had to pay £299 per week at Uni, I would definitely have lived at home or just not attended.

I lived in halls in London last year and paid about 100 pounds a week. You add a travel card to that, and it added up. Back home, I pay $150 a week to share a room, so London for me was ridiculously cheap.

There are student nights to be had, but the music can be horrible, and the crowd isn't always the best. Everywhere else in the UK seemed a hell of a lot cheaper on the front--I was up at a friend's house in Preston on a bank holiday weekend, and they were doing 1 pound bottles of sol. Never saw anything like that in London.

How the hell do they afford it? Even when I was working I got paid only just over that monthly rent rate.
