I'm not going to lie, I was seething yesterday when I heard about this. Cheap bastards who don't understand the mood of the supporters was my attitude, but having calmed down a bit, and having read Clarence's and Capi's opinions on the guy, I now feel alot better about it. And it seems a good price.

I think that's where I was coming from Rick. He does look alright but Wenger's recent track record in the markets, the fact no other big clubs are interested and his poor stats are a major concern. I don't buy this idea that we shouldn't expect more just Wenger is a tight-fisted sob because that simply doesn't justify our penny pinching. I guess I feel there must be someone better out there for a bit more. This guy may be really good value for money but that doesn't mean he's the standard we need (broken record but look at the CF options at the other big clubs).

Of course I'll support Young but Wenger lost a lot of credibility last summer with his bargain bin purchases. Chamakh was a horrific example of cutting one's nose off to spite one's face and look at the position we're in now.

One thing I think you are being little unfair on is comparing our striking options to our rivals. We play with one striker up front in every single game throughout the season, our rivals do not - and United and Liverpool have played two up front in just about every game in the last twelve months. If we still played 4-4-2 we'd have more strikers at the club too.

Perhaps I am Ricky. Perhaps it's that fear that Chamakh will play more than five league games for us this season that's the real killer.

But we do know that VP will miss a reasonable chunk of the season, which means that it is not unreasonable to demand a high quality back-up.

if this is a signing to give us depth up front and has no influence on other transfer dealings, then i am all for it. if we don't sign another winger and midfielder, i will be fucking pissed.

I think we can all agree with that Kel. This bloke alone is nowhere near good enough. Absolutely scandalous if we get caught in a scrap for 4th place while £50+ million sits in the bank. Unjustifiable.

I have to say, competing for 4th looks incredibly optimistic right now.

Liverpool, and both Manchester teams have been in a completely different league to Arsenal in the opening fixtures, and Chelsea look far stronger too. Arsenal will be fighting for 5th & 6th this year, max. Park Chu Young looks a decent player, decent signing for the Europa League team we are.

I think Monaco will get more from us than they would have had from Lille, yes. Who knows what the real sum is? Just the suggestion of 10m makes me sick. So much wrong with our squad, and this guy will be the solution of very few, if any, of the problems we have.
