really? id be optimistic with those players coming in, if only for the fact we'd be a stable defensive force for the first time in 5 years

I've got nothing against any of those players (well I hope that Anelka dies in a car crash but that's beside the point), but they're not even close to replace the quality we've lost.

nasri is easily replaced. losing cesc hurts, but if it means a shift in our attacking stye, and a chance to strengthen our spine, it could be beneficial in the long term. and dont underestimate the power of an entire squad being fully committed to the cause. no more bartha dna

And that's leaving out Almunia, Miquel, Squillaci, Lansbury, Coquelin, Bendtner, Afobe and Campbell.

A bit of a gamble with Jenkinson, short of good cover at left back and maybe one more experienced, top class central midfielder (though hopefully Ramsey proves his worth), but the rest is as good as we've had in many a year in my opinion.

I think it looks bad from a creative viewpoint. Only player out of that lot that excites me is Hazard, and I don't think he's going to be top class for a season or two. He was marked out of games constantly in France last season and will get an even worse treatment in Premier League, but at least he's got world class potential. What does the other three have? Is Cahill even better than Koscielny? Is M'Vila better than Song? Not in my opinion. As for Anelka, he's the guy who scored six league goals in 33 games last season. And he's nearly 33 years old. He's a classy player on his day but I don't think he would revitalise our attack in any way. Besides, he's a bloody cunt.

The reality is that we have Wilshere in a protective boot at the moment. Who knows how long he's going to be out? We desperately need a creative central midfielder to balance things up even if he does make an early comeback, which seems pretty unlikely at this point.

Na, nothing rumoured, just an idea from Capi the other week that stuck with me. Think he would be a great back-up. Forlan would have been stonkingly good in that role too - although he wouldn't come in as back-up.

Nasri was better than the rest of the wide players too. Fabregas was better than Wilshere and Ramsey from a creative perspective. The way Anelka has looked lately he's probably comparable to Chamakh. Like I said, it looks bad in the creative end. We needed to actually strengthen the attack this summer, but best case scenario at this point is that we end up slightly worse. Or so it looks anyway. I can't believe the attacking players we've been missing out on while fucking around with Barcelona and Manchester City.

I know you have said you haven't seen all that much of him and what you have seen hasn't blown you away, but from the little I've seen of him, I'm surprised he's not a player that's right up your street?

Nasri was a passenger for half of the season and has already been adequately replaced by Gervinho in my opinion.

Cesc is a loss, but we aren't going to sign another Cesc and we will be better for it.

To be fair, Walcott and Gervinho have 60 goals between them last season that they either scored or created.

Maybe Wenger is looking at having a midfield that functions first as a midfield, as it used to be back in the old days, instead of one that creates everything and scores all the goals?

Walcott, Gervinho, Hazard, Arshavin (on his day), Ryo and Chamberlain are all players that are, or will be in time, productive, dangerous players. Put a solid, strong, athletic, technically capable, passing midfield behind them, along with Robin, and I think we're looking good, this season and beyond.

Arshavin is the worst player at Arsenal at the moment. I can't believe he's going to start against United but it shows exactly how poor we are from an attacking viewpoint. Chamberlain and Miyaichi will probably turn into great players in due time, but not this season.

This is the strangest bit of all, because those traits are precisely what we lack at the moment. M'Vila is a Makelele, not a Schweinsteiger. He's a defensive zone player with very little variation in his passing range. His main ability is that he's always staying behind to pose as a corner of a potential triangle, making it easy for the two more attacking players to pass the ball around. You used to have problems with Denilson's lack of imagination in a defensive role. How can you be excited about M'Vila then?
